Sarah Walton Reporting For The Bee

Newtown High School senior Sarah Walton started her internship with The Newtown Bee this past week. The 17-year-old said she “thought about how I always loved writing, and I though, wouldn’t it be nice to work with The Newtown Bee?”

Sarah’s mother, Katherine, encouraged her. Ms Walton, said her daughter, has always told Sarah she should be a technical writer. While Sarah is not expecting to go into the field of journalism, she does have her hopes on being a lawyer. She plans to apply to nine different colleges, including American University in Washington, D.C., Boston University, and Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass.

“I really enjoy writing,” said Sarah, “and I thought it would be a unique work experience.”

When she was in sixth grade, Sarah attended Millennium Middle School, a fine arts and communication magnet school in Sanford, Fla. It was there that she got her first taste of studying law. Now, she said, she is looking into studying international law.

Sarah is also interested in politics and volunteers with the Independent Party of Newtown.

“I really like how I can express myself in words,” said Sarah, on why she likes writing.

Sarah has lived in Newtown with her family — father Dennis, mother Katherine, and brother Jonathan, who is a sophomore at NHS — since eighth grade.
