Open House At Sandy Hook Fire House
Open House At Sandy Hook Fire House
The Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Co. Inc will be hosting an open house at the main fire house on Riverside Road on Sunday, October 7, from 11 am to 3 pm, to kick off Fire Prevention Week 2001.
There will be live demonstrations of motor vehicle accident extrications, rescues from a building, and of how firefighters use the Thermal Imaging Camera, which was purchased with citizen donations.
There will also be many informational tables such as car seat installation by the Newtown Police Department, a table on basic first aid provided by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, sprinklers in the home, and basic information on the fire department itself. There will also be a simulated house trailer, which will allow children to practice escaping from their homes, and to see how smoke âtakes overâ a house. Smokey The Bear will also visit.
In keeping with this yearâs theme, âCover the Bases and Strike Out Fire,â the firefighters will have a baseball diamond that attendees can walk around and each base will have information from trained professionals on kitchen safety, heating safety, electrical safety, and smoke detectors.
This event is free and refreshments will be served. The informational tables will be open all day and the demonstrations will take place at different times throughout the day.
There will also be raffles and handouts. For more information call the station at 270-4392.
