Metzger

Robert W. Metzger, 81, a retired high school administrator, died August 24 in the Life Care Center of Ocala, Fla.

A native of Bridgeport, he moved to Ocala from Newtown in 1980. Mr Metzger was a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. He was a first class petty officer in the US Navy, serving in the Pacific during  World War II, aboard the aircraft carrier Bon Homme Richard. He was a member of VFW Post 4209.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Hildegard A. Metzger; three daughters, Elaine I. Metzger, PhD, of Atlanta, Ga.; Janize R. Dawid and her husband, Richard, of Monroe; Marcia F. Liddy and her husband, Edward, of Lake Forest, Ill.; two brothers, Philip Metzger of Fairfield, and Father Andrew Metzger, OSB, of St Leo Abby, Fla.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his first wife, Eve G. Metzger.

A memorial service will take place on Friday, October 5, at 10 am in St Jude’s Church, 707 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

The Cyril F. Mullins Trumbull Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road, is in charge of arrangements.
