TheatreWorks Casting Call

NEW MILFORD — TheatreWorks is seeking actors for its upcoming production of the comedy The Man Who Came to Dinner, by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman.

The Man Who Came to Dinner tells the uproarious story of Sheridan Whiteside – critic, lecturer, wit, radio orator and intimate friend of the great and nearly great. After dining at the home of the prominent Stanley family, Whiteside slips on their doorstep and injures his hip.

A tumultuous six weeks of confinement follows, during which the famous and irascible invalid monopolizes the Stanley living room. Cockroach farms, an octopus in the cellar, a constant stream of bizarre visitors, and even a dinner party with ex-convicts all shatter the household’s domestic tranquility. Before it’s over, the outrageous has become commonplace and so have the laughs.

Ten men and nine women are needed. The director is Jane Farnol, who directed last year’s hit The Taming of the Shrew at TheatreWorks.

The auditions will be held at TheatreWorks from 7 to 9 pm on Monday, October 8, and Tuesday, October 9. All roles are available.

Rehearsals are scheduled to begin in late October and the show will run weekends, November 30 through December 31. Please note that actors and directors at TheatreWorks are volunteers and no pay is given.

For more information, visit the theater’s Web site, www.danbury.org/theatreworks, or call 860-350-6863. The theater is at 5 Brookside Avenue.
