In Appreciation Of Emergency Volunteers
In Appreciation Of
Emergency Volunteers
To the Editor:
We would like to voice our appreciation of our local and neighboring volunteer fire companies, the police, ambulance, and the civilians that pitched in to help out during the tanker accident near our street on Saturday September 27. At 2 am, the sound of the blast jolted us awake and all we could think of was: âAre we under attack? Was there a plane crash?â
Looking through our windows, all we could see was a large pulsing of flame and smoke. By the time we got dressed and walked the short way to the corner of Route 25 and Greenbriar, the police and fire companies were there ââ organized, cool, calm, and in control of the situation. I hope everyone in Newtown realizes how blessed we all are to have men and women who can jump out of bed at a tone in the middle of the night and be at work in a matter of minutes!
We also applaud the utility companies, who worked around the clock (through torrential rain) to give us back the luxuries of electricity, telephone, and cable TV we have become so accustomed to.
Thank you all ââ we can sleep better at night knowing you are on the job.
Sincerely,
Dan and Jan Moran
