My name is Brian Leonardi and I am excited to be running as a candidate for Legislative Council, 1st District. As a resident of Newtown since 2016, a husband, and a father of two daughters attending Newtown Public Schools, I am deeply committed to ensuring our town remains an affordable, safe, and desirable place to live and raise a family.

I bring to this role four years of local government experience, including my current role on the Board of Education, and a prior term on the Planning & Zoning Commission. On the Board of Education, I have performed meticulous line item reviews of the School District’s budget to ensure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely, while also holding administrators and district leadership accountable to goals and priorities impacting each of our students. Further, as an Alternate Commissioner for Planning & Zoning, I contributed to decisions on complex and often contentious applications, always guided by thorough assessment and adherence to zoning regulations.

Professionally, I am a licensed attorney with 12 years of in-house legal experience, currently serving as Vice President, Associate General Counsel, and Chief of Staff for a global insurance company. My work managing global budgets and navigating intricate legal matters has honed skills I will leverage to provide thoughtful and pragmatic leadership for Newtown.

If elected, I am committed to fiscal responsibility and affordability to ensure that we deliver outstanding public services while minimizing the tax burden on residents. Together, we can guide Newtown’s future and preserve the qualities that make it a wonderful place to call home.
