Nighthawk Cross Country Teams Win
Newtown High School’s cross country teams had a meet at Joel Barlow of Redding on September 24 and at Bethel on September 30.
Nighthawk runner Natalie McLean won both races. In the Barlow race, the girls defeated Barlow 20-41, Brookfield 18-45, and Stratford 15-50. McLean finished in 21:34, and was followed by Keeley Ferriter in second with a time of 22:12. The rest of Newtown’s top five: Nadia Andrew in 22:58, Anna Parsons in 23:26, and Audrey McLean in 23:30.
At Bethel, the girls defeated Bethel 20-41 and beat both Masuk and Harding by scores of 15-50. McLean won in a time of 22:11.89, and Ferriter was third in 22:58.45, followed by Andrew in 23:40.70, Parsons in 23:46.84, and Annie Fattore in 23:52.17.
In the race at Barlow, the boys defeated Pomperaug 19-26 and Immaculate 19-47. Newtown was led by Aarav Shetty in a time of 19:15, Orion Lowery in 19:18, Ubay Dissa in 19:18.181, Duncan Kolb in 19:18.182, and Reid Karnas in 20:17.
At Bethel, the boys fell 26-30 to the host Wildcats, and defeated Masuk 17-47 and Harding 15-50. Lowery paced the Nighthawks in 17:52.68 and was followed by Dissa in 18:51.89, Bryce Taylor in 19:19.23, Karnas in 19:19.52, and Kolb in 19:19.17.
