Unsafe Backing

Newtown Police report Charles Luf, 75, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Ford F350, was parked in a parking space at Newtown Deli at 9:41 am September 18. Nathan Maldonado, 30, of Bridgeport, operating a 2000 Ford Ranger, made a right turn out of Edmond Town Hall and started to head southbound on Main Street. Luf backed into Maldonado’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Luf was issued a written warning for unsafe backing.

Friendly Wave Leads To Collision

Newtown Police report John Millar, 39, of Southbury, operating a 2016 Toyota 4Runner, was waiting to turn left onto Country Club Road from the northbound lane of South Main Street at 3:38 pm September 19. Gregory Csuka, 34, of Monroe, operating a Mazda Mazda3, was traveling southbound on South Main Street in the right lane of two. An unidentified vehicle stopped to allow Millar to turn. Millar began to turn left without yielding to Csuka, who had right of way, and was struck by Csuka’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Csuka’s vehicle was towed.

Millar was issued a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Brawl Leads To Arrests

Newtown Police report that at 2:04 pm September 21, officers were called to the Newtown High School football field for the report of a physical altercation. After an investigation, officers arrested Wendie Walker-Parks, 55, of Bristol, and her sister, Tammie Walker, 58, of Bristol, both on the charge of second-degree breach of peace. The sisters were involved in a fight on the sidelines with another woman, stemming from a past argument.

Both were released on a promise to appear with a court date of October 2 in Danbury Superior Court.

Struck Pole, Flipped Car

Newtown Police report Andrea Farley, 69, of Newtown, operating a 2023 Kia Sportage, was turning onto Pecks Lane from South Main Street at 4:02 pm September 24. While turning, the vehicle went off the roadway onto the right hand shoulder, striking a utility pole and flipping upside down.

Farley was transported to Danbury Hospital for suspected minor injuries. The vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Left Scene But Did Not Evade Responsibility

Newtown Police report Sevy Martin, 48, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2019 GMC Sierra was parked in a parking space in a lot on Church Hill Road at 7:26 pm September 25. An unoccupied 2025 Toyota Rav4 owned by Leann Mayer, 38, of Monroe, was parked in the same lot. Martin backed into Mayer’s vehicle. While Sevy did leave the scene, he made efforts to document the incident and locate the owner, including contacting management of a nearby business

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Arrested On Warrant

Newtown Police report at approximately 6:45 pm September 26, Natasha Yates-Gordon went to Newtown Police Department to turn herself in on a warrant for her arrest. She was charged with disorderly conduct and second-degree threatening (physical).

She was released on a promise to appear with a court date of October 7 in Danbury Superior Court.

Foot Slipped Off Brake

Newtown Police report Ronald Davis, 63, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2017 Nissan Titan, was stopped in the drive up teller lane of a bank on Queen Street at 11:40 am September 27. He was stopped behind a 2018 Chevrolet Trax operated by Karen Browning, 66, of Newtown. Davis told police his foot slipped off the brake, and his vehicle struck Browning’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Newtown Police, Newtown Hook & Ladder, Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and a paramedic all responded to the USPS Post Office on Commerce Road around 2:50 pm Wednesday, September 24, after a 2012 Nissan Titan crashed into two signs. Newtown police report Luciano Decampos, 70, of Danbury, was operating the truck southbound on Commerce Road. The vehicle crossed the center line, continued off the road, and struck a large concrete sign and a smaller sign, both adjacent to the property’s driveway. Decampos told police he remembered turning left onto Commerce Road, and then feeling funny. The next thing he reportedly remembered was being off road and staying off road because there was a vehicle traveling in the northbound lane of Commerce Road. Decampos was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of possible injuries. His vehicle was towed. Decampos was issued an infraction for failure to maintain a lane. —Bee Photo, Hicks
