A Day Of Caring

To the Editor:

The Day of Caring is a yearly event sponsored by United Way, that we look forward to and truly appreciate. On September 13, we were fortunate to work again, with a team of 14 volunteers, who are employees at Newtown Savings Bank. When they arrived, “the volunteers discussed last year’s project, as a way of introducing the tasks to volunteers who were new to the team this year.” Within minutes time, the volunteers began working on projects that included window washing, painting, of our outside entrance door and entrance way, hallways, offices and bathrooms, in addition to the cleaning of carpets and upholstery.

Moreover, it was hard to believe that all of this can take place in a day’s time. Indeed, it is the spirit  and the hard work of the volunteers that makes this happen. The clients, staff, and board appreciate your assistance in making the center bright and cheery.

Lastly, we enjoyed a picnic lunch of pizza, on the hill outside the center, that was generously donated by My Place Restaurant in Newtown.

Thank you, again, to the staff at United Way, Newtown Savings Bank and My Place, for making this a community Day of Caring.

Sincerely,

Terry A. Blackmer, LCSW
