Newtown Will Continue
Its Support Of Rescue
Efforts On Saturday
By Shannon Hicks
Hot Shots II, the sports bar/restaurant on the corner of Mt Pleasant Road and Route 25 in Newtown, and Newtown Emergency Services have teamed up to offer a special event this weekend that will offer specially-priced food and drinks, live entertainment, and prizes to the public while also raising money for the New York City Firefightersâ Childrenâs Fund. The $10 cover charge will be one of the largest portions of Saturdayâs fundraising efforts.
Hot Shots II opens at 11 am on Saturday, and on October 13, the live entertainment â traditionally an evening offering â begins at 1 pm, as will some of the dayâs additional special offerings. The music starts with Jen Taylor and Carrie, a duo that performs classic rock and country favorites. Next up will be The Gutter Boogie Band, which plays classic and current rock.
Closing the event will be local favorites Moppinâ Sauce, a disco/funk band that covers some of the most popular music of the Seventies and early Eighties, complete with costumes.
Saturdayâs event will have a limited menu available. There will be hot dogs and fries for $3, burgers and fries for $3.50, buffalo wings for $4, and meatball or sausage and pepper grinders for $3 each. All bottle and draft beer will be $2. Newtown Emergency Services will be providing a designated driver Saturday.
In addition to the live music, radio station I-95 FM will be broadcasting live from the Newtown location, and raffles will be held all day. The restaurantâs distributors have donated a number of items, from T-shirts, denim shirts, and hats to toys, chairs and even a five-gallon bottle of Chianti. Raffle tickets will be $1 each and drawings will be ongoing.
âItâs going to be a crazy day,â Hot Shots II owner Bill Piccirillo, Jr, said this week. âSome of this is coincidental. We were having Moppinâ Sauce here on the 13th already, and then we decided to do this fundraising on that date because Moppinâ Sauce always draws a big crowd. The other bands also wanted to get involved, and I-95 also happened to be booked for here that nightâ¦
âItâs going to be a good time,â he promised.
