Erwin N. Potter
Erwin N. Potter, 65, husband of Linda (Danahy) Potter of Sandy Hook, died October 7 at his home after a long illness.
Mr Potter was born in New York City on May 15, 1938, a son of the late Hilon R. and Margaret (Quinn) Potter. He was a graduate of Syracuse University, College of Environmental Science and Forestry with a degree in landscape architecture. He served in the US Air Force as a radio repairman.
A licensed landscape architect, Mr Potterâs practice was Environmental System Planning/Erwin Potter & Associates in Sandy Hook for 30 years. His unique ability to design with nature made him excellent at creating large ponds, waterfalls, and other natural water features that blended with the environment. He designed several upscale residences in Westchester County including Bronfman Estate, Rockefeller Estate, Boscabell Restoration, IBM Headquarters, Turning Stone Oneida Indian Nation, and Eagle Hill Alcoholic Rehabilitation Center.
Mr Potter was a parishioner of St Ann Melkite Catholic Church in Danbury. He served on the Parish Council and was a member of St Annâs Menâs Club. He was active on the building committee for the new church and his office designed the site and planting plans. He was a ten-year member of SING, Inc, a parent support group for the Newtown High School Choral Department. In 1988 he worked hard with the board and Choral Director Anthony Inzero to plan a performing tour in the former USSR.
In addition to his wife, Mr Potter is survived by two daughters, Erica M. Potter of Burbank, Calif., and Jessica Potter Lee and her husband, Scott, of Southington; a brother, Hilon R. Potter, Jr, of Hyde Park, N.Y.; a sister, Betty Potter of Queensbury, N.Y.; a grandchild, McKenzie Lee of Southington; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Josephine Potter Lamica.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 10, at 11 am, in St Ann Melkite Church, 181 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury. Interment will be in Pine View Cemetery, Queensbury, N.Y., at the convenience of the family. Calling hours were scheduled for Thursday, October 9, from 5 to 8 pm, in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
