John Hoban To Play
At Meeting House
On Saturday, October 18, at 8 pm, Newtown Meeting House will be host to an intimate evening of traditional Irish music and song featuring John Hoban, a singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist from Castlebar in County Mayo, Ireland.
Well-known and respected throughout Ireland, Mr Hoban has taught, inspired and played alongside countless musicians. In 1998 he released his first solo CD of original songs, and followed that in 2001 with the release of Sruthan, a critically-hailed solo recording on which he plays a fiddle, mandocello and banjo. In between he was featured on Sharon Shannonâs best-selling Diamond Mountain Sessions.
A beloved figure throughout the west of Ireland, Mr Hobanâs concerts are intimate affairs featuring traditional and original songs accompanied by his unique mandocello, laced with varied instrumentals and folklore.
The concert is being hosted by Shamrock Traditional Irish Music Society, and is sponsored in part by a grant from The Wild Geese and with support from Connecticut Commission on the Arts.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. For reservations or more information about the concert call 256-8453 or send email to tmquinn@optonline.net.
