Louis Nezvesky

Dr Louis Nezvesky, 80, of Fairfield, died October 8 at St Vincent’s Medical Center. Dr Nezvesky was born in Newtown, a son of the late Abraham and Yetta (Bernzweig) Nezvesky, and was a US Navy veteran, having faithfully served as ensign during World War II on Guam in the South Pacific.

Dr Nezvesky was a graduate of the University of Connecticut, receiving a bachelor of science degree from the College of Agriculture in 1948, a master of science degree in 1950, and he received his DVM from Cornell University in 1953. He was recognized by the Board of Veterinary Registration and Examination and certified by the board for veterinary medicine, surgery, and dentistry in both Connecticut and New York. During his years in practice, he operated a veterinary hospital in Ithaca, N.Y., the Trumbull Animal Hospital for 20 years, and he was head veterinarian for the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport. Dr Nezvesky had developed a prosthetic eye for injured dogs, and taught the procedures involved in its use.

He was a member of Congregation Rodeph Sholom, and was an active financial supporter of the state of Israel and a variety of Jewish foundations and organizations.

Dr Nezvesky was predeceased by his wife, Frieda Kobel Nezvesky, in 1993, and is survived by his brothers, Samuel Nezvesky of Newtown, Israel Nezvesky and his wife, Claire, of North Carolina, his sisters, Sylvia Kirschblum and her husband, Henry, of Fairfield, and Shirley Beresin and her husband, Bernie, of Fairfield; and by 16 nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a sister, Minnie Lichter.

Services were scheduled to take place Friday, October 10, at 11:30 am at Rodeph Sholom Memorial Park on Kings Highway in Fairfield. The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
