To Special People

To the Editor:

Saturday was our tenth annual Health and Safety Fair, and it was better than ever!  I want to thank all of the exhibitors and participants at the fair; they are truly a joy to work with. A big thanks to Mike Hoyt and the wonderful custodial staff at the middle school; they worked tirelessly for us.

 I also want to give a special thanks to our sponsors, Aqua Environmental Lab, Ashlar of Newtown, Candlewood Valley Tent Company, Castle Hill Farm, Marcus Dairy, Dr Charles Ray, the Chamber of Commerce, TC Cycle, Newtown Lions Club, Newtown Woman’s Club, The Newtown Bee, and the wonderful food service folks that always faithfully support us –– Big Y, Carminuccio’s, Franco’s, My Place, Pizza Palace, and the Villa.  It is all of their support that makes such an event possible.  There were also many folks that helped with our first annual Pumpkin Walk.  You’ll be hearing more about that in the coming months.

 Thank you to all the firefighters, emergency personnel, and police; this town is so fortunate to have such dedicated and talented people looking out for them.  It is so nice that in the trying times that we face, community events can bring us together, working together and having some good clean fun.  And to all the residents, the fair’s attendees, thank you for coming, it is for you that we work to share all of the free health screenings and health and safety info to keep Newtown the great town that it is.  I also want to add a very heartfelt thank you to the Board of Health and my Health District staff –– all of their support, hard work, and sense of humor are invaluable and make the difference everyday. On behalf of the Health Fair chairpersons (Mae Schmidle, Dr Della Schmid, and myself), it was truly a pleasure and we’ll look forward to seeing you next year!!
