Betsy Paynter Running For Zoning Board Of Appeals Alternate
To The Editor:
My name is Betsy Paynter, and I am running for Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) Alternate. Newtown has been my home for 28 years, where my husband Brad and I raised our two children, Althea and Grenville — both proud graduates of Newtown’s wonderful school system.
Professionally, I have almost two decades of experience in economic and community development across Connecticut. I currently serve as a Program Director at the Western Connecticut Council of Governments, where I work with local communities, business leaders, and regional partners on land use planning, zoning and brownfield redevelopment. I have also helped shape zoning regulation rewrites, support small business growth, and led development strategies.
Before entering public service, I built my career in marketing and strategic planning for leading national brands, learning the value of collaboration, communication, and results-driven problem solving — skills I bring to every role.
Newtown’s charm, character, and strong sense of community make it a truly special place to live. I believe my professional understanding of zoning, community engagement and my desire to help our Town can help preserve what makes Newtown unique.
I respectfully ask for your vote on November 4th for Zoning Board of Appeals Alternate.
Betsy Paynter
