The League of Women Voters of Northern Fairfield County (LWVNFC), in collaboration with Newtown Democrat and Republican Town Committees, will host a debate between candidates for the Board of Selectmen, including first selectmen, in preparation for the municipal election in the town of Newtown.
The event will be conducted in the auditorium of Newtown High School, 12 Berkshire Road, on Thursday, October 16. Doors will open at 7 pm and the debate will begin at 7:30.
The debate will feature incumbent Republican First Selectman Jeff Capeci and Board of Selectmen candidate Charles Gardner, and Democratic First Selectman candidate Bruce Walczak and his running mate, Paul Lundquist.
It will follow the rules established by League of Women Voters US, ensuring a fair and impartial platform for candidates to communicate their messages to the voters.
LWVNFC is looking forward to providing the community with essential insights into the candidates and their visions for the upcoming municipal election. This effort underscores the importance of community engagement and education in the democratic process.
The public is invited to arrive early to submit questions in person. Questions will help shape the debate and address the issues that matter most to the Newtown community.
The debate will be shared via livestream through the LWVNFC Instagram account @LWVNFC.
Those planning to attend should note no political or campaign apparel, signs, or material will be allowed inside the venue.
