WestConn Astronomy Club To Consider Extraterrestrial Life

DANBURY – We can find stories of UFO sightings far more easily, it seems, than we can find stories on what scientific actions are ongoing to look for life in the universe. The question of whether we are alone in the universe intrigues us because the answer will help us understand our place in the cosmos.

The Astronomy Club of WestConn is planning an interactive, informal discussion of just what is being done to search for extraterrestrial life. The SETI project, NASA’s plans for Mars missions, and planet-finding efforts of astronomers around the world will be explored at 7:30 pm on Thursday, November 15, at the Ruth A. Haas Library on Western Connecticut State University’s main campus, 181 White Street, Danbury. This event is free and open to the public.

Western Connecticut State University is fortunate to have a Physics and Astronomy Department with links to other research institutions. The university’s two observatories have long served as a resource to the public for a personal view into space through frequent public nights. Now the student-run Astronomy Club initiates informal, interactive discussion groups on various astronomy subjects. The public and WestConn students are encouraged to attend.
