What was your favorite thing about Newtown High School when you were there?

(Newtown High School students who graduated during the 1930s came together this week for a class reunion at the Stony Hill Inn in Bethel)

Lillian (Canfield) Ermisch: “My favorite thing was you knew everybody in the whole school.” —Class of 1935

Henri Arnold: “We had fun on the baseball team. We were probably the worst in the league.” —Class of 1935

Emma (Brown) Pavao: “The Friday assemblies. Some of the kids performed. We had May Day at the town hall.” —Class of 1935

Eric Person: “I think I probably enjoyed the agriculture classes best of all. I wasn’t the best in school, but I could chop corn.” —Class of 1935

Grace (Murphy) Rooke: “I think I liked our teachers. I think we felt really well educated with the size of our school. We got a good education at Newtown High School.” —Class of 1935

Francis Bresson: “Playing soccer. Every other week we got a half-hour. If it rained we had to stay inside.” —Class of 1953
