Fundraiser Supports Skate Park, New Equipment
Fundraiser Supports Skate Park,
New Equipment
Skateboard enthusiasts interested in adding equipment to the townâs skate park can support the cause later this month.
The Newtown Parks and Recreation Department and Day One Skate Shop of Bridgeport will host a Halloween Skate Jam fundraiser on Sunday, October 28, from noon to 5 pm at the skate park at Dickinson Park. Admission is $5, with a $5 entry fee for contests. The day will include raffles, music, refreshments, and awards for beginner, intermediate, advanced, best trick, and best costume.
Claiming that frequent visitor Stu Munro, a Western Connecticut State University senior, âloves the park,â Parks and Recreation Director Amy Mangold told the recreation commission this week that Stu hopes to raise funds to add a quarter pipe to the facility.
Happy for two reasons, Ms Mangold said, âItâs great they want to make improvements.â She has also wanted to have events held there.
Ms Mangold has not yet determined the costs for installing a quarter pipe.
Helmets and waivers are required for all participants. Waivers are available at www.newtown-ct.gov, click on Parks and Recreation Department. Contact the department at 203-270-4340.
