To Kick Off New Library Series For Mystery Writers

“Working On Mysteries Without Any Clues” is the first offering in the new series Get Clued In: a free series for mystery writers that will launch at C.H. Booth Library on Tuesday, October 18. At 7 pm in the meeting room, historical writer and Republican-American news librarian Michael Dooling will explain how he researched the disappearances of three women who were hitchhiking alone in New England when last seen more than 60 years ago.

Mr Dooling will explain how he used electronic newspaper databases, freedom of information requests, state police files, university archives, topographical maps from the period, newspaper archives, and personal interviews with the handful of relatives and witnesses who are still alive to write his book, Clueless In New England: The Unsolved Disappearance of Paula Welden, Connie Smith and Katherine Hull. The author will show how he merged meticulous historical research with modern technology and good old-fashioned detective work.

A book signing of Clueless in New England will follow. Refreshments will also be served.

The series will continue with Officer Jeff Silver, a firearms expert from the Newtown Department of Police Services, presenting “Arming the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: What writers need to know,” on Tuesday, October 25; Forensic Expert Elaine Pagliaro of the Henry Lee Institute, presenting “Forensic Science in Pursuit of Justice: Famous Cases,” on Friday, October 28; and Dr Kathleen Moody, a board certified veterinarian and lifelong murder mystery aficionado, will discuss clinical signs and evidence of “Poisons to Die For,” on Tuesday, November 1.

All programs will begin at 7 pm.

Writers of all ages and with any level of experience are invited to attend this series. Refreshments will be served following each presentation.

Registration for each program is requested, and can be done online at CHBoothLibrary.org (click on the calendar, and then on the date of the program for which you are signing up).
