To Celebrate 10th Anniversary
DANBURY â Housatonic Habitat for Humanity, the Danbury affiliate of the worldâs largest non-governmental home-builder, is ten years old. To mark the occasion â and to thank the many volunteers and families who made local Habitat work possible â the affiliate is holding a 10th Year Anniversary and First Annual Volunteer Recognition Gala.
The event will take place at the Inn at Ethan Allen on Wednesday, October 24, at 7 pm, with a cash bar from 6 pm. The cost is $30 per person; reservations are being accepted through the Habitat office at 744-1340.
Housatonic Habitat is currently working on four affordable homes in Danbury, three on Rowan Street and one on Blueberry Lane; it has completed two other homes in Danbury and two in Newtown.
The mission of Habitat for Humanity is to eliminate substandard housing the world over, so homes are sold to families without profit or mortgage interest; qualifying families put in hundreds of hours of âsweat equityâ building their homes alongside Habitat volunteers.
Habitat, which celebrated its own 25th anniversary earlier this year, has built more than 100,000 homes housing more than 500,000 people in some 70 countries and in every US state, and plans to build another 100,000 homes, housing a million people, by 2005.
