Saturday Is Fifth Annual America Recycles Day
DANBURY ââ On Saturday, October 20, the fifth annual American Recycles Day will be held to collect used, broken, and obsolete electronics such as televisions, VCRs, personal computers, and stereo equipment.
The Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority (HRRA) is conducting the event from 11 am to 3 pm on Plumtrees Road across from the Danbury Water Treatment Facility, north of the state vehicle emissions testing station.
The free recycling service is available to residents of Danbury, Newtown, Bethel, Brookfield, Bridgewater, Kent, New Fairfield, Redding, Ridgefield, and Sherman.
Last year area residents dropped off 46,360 pounds of electronics; statewide 35 similar collections have been held.
The goal is to cut down on the amount of metal, plastic, hazardous components, and glass that reaches landfills and incinerators.
Paul Avery, who heads the recycling efforts of the HRRA, said most parts of the discarded computers are recyclable.
During the collection, HRRA will display its âEarth to Kidsâ van full of recycling tips and information.
