Truck Windows Broken

A Mack dump truck owned by the Michael Burton Construction Company of Newtown had two of its windows broken sometime during the night late last week. The incident was reported to police at 8 am Friday morning.

The truck had been parked along Butterfield Road near Butternut Ridge.

The damage cost was estimated at $250-$300.

Taunton Lake Road

 Vandalism

Two vehicles parked at 33 Taunton Lake Road were damaged by occupants of a passing car last Thursday night (October 11).

A neighbor reportedly interrupted the vandalism, but the vehicle and its occupants did manage to flee the area.

Accident At The Flagpole

A Bridgeport woman was issued a written warning for passing on the right following a two-car crash at the flagpole last Friday.

According to police, Walter Motyka, 61, of 5 Kent Road, Newtown, was traveling west on Church Hill Road in a 1994 Volvo station wagon. At the intersection with Main Street, he stopped at the stop sign, then entered the intersection after being waved on by a driver traveling south on Main Street and looking to turn left onto Church Hill Road. As Motyka attempted to pass through the intersection, a third car, a 1998 Toyota Corolla driven by Donna Thompson-Wang, 35, of Bridgeport, was traveling south and attempted to pass the vehicle turning onto Church Hill Road. As she did so, her vehicle struck the rear bumper of Motyka’s car.

No injuries were reported.

Collision on

South Main Street

Brian Ross, 19, of 22 Fern Lane, Newtown, was ticketed following a minor accident on South Main Street last Friday.

According to police, Ross’s 1988 Oldsmobile Delta struck the back of the 1995 Lincoln Town Car driven by Kevin Albert, 40, of 69 Lillinonah Road, Bridgewater. Albert’s car had been stopped in the southbound lane as the driver attempted to turn onto Simm Lane.

Tire Theft

Police are investigating a reported theft of four tires and rims valued at $3,000 from a 2000 BMW parked at 22 Hi Barlow Road.

The alleged crime is said to have taken place between September 29 and 30.

Reckless Driving

Walter Hrabstock, 56, of 172 Patriot Road, Southbury, was arrested Friday night after attempting to drive through a police block on Queen Street.

Police had blocked traffic on Mile Hill Road due to a traffic accident and had directed Hrabstock to stop. The driver reportedly argued with officers, however, and then attempted to drive forward toward them. The driver then stopped his vehicle and continued to argue as he was placed in custody.

The man was charged with disobeying the signal of an officer, reckless driving, and driving under the influence.

He is scheduled to appear in court October 30.

Collision With A Deer

A deer running across Church Hill Road collided with a 2000 Chevy Tahoe driven by Deidre Beckwith, 32, of Newtown.

The car sustained minor damage to the driver’s side door. The deer ran from the scene.

Overturned Truck

An overturned tractor trailer truck on Mile Hill Road last Friday night caused quite a mess, according to police.

The incident took place at approximately 8:14 pm as driver Gayle Exley, 29, of Hollis, New York, was heading west. As the truck approached the intersection with Mile Hill Road South, its driver suddenly lost control, causing the 18-wheeler to overturn, spilling its load of PVC onto the roadway.

Exley suffered lacerations to his left arm and was treated by Newtown Ambulance.

The accident is under investigation.

Rear-End Collision

Veronica Rebman, 34, of 3 Sycamore Drive, Newtown, was issued a written warning Saturday after her 2000 Dodge Durango ran into the rear of a 1990 Acura Integra driven by Tuan Tran, 21, of Danbury.

The accident took place at the intersection of Queen Street and Glover Avenue.

Second-Degree Larceny

A Newtown man was arrested Monday on a second-degree larceny warrant.

According to police, Jeffrey Baker, 32, of 21 Beechwood Drive, Sandy Hook, cashed checks in December, January, and February at Peoples Bank that he had stolen from his former employer, Automated Door Systems of Wallingford.

The employer reported the incident in August after discovering three missing checks with a value of $7,581.

Flagpole Fender-Bender

Police responded to a fender bender near the flagpole Monday afternoon and issued an infraction to Jerome Valenta, 60, of 12 Honey Lane, Sandy Hook, for failure to keep a reasonable distance apart.

Valenta’s 1996 Ford Taurus struck the rear of the car driven by Carolyn Denault, 35, of 35 Tunnel Road.

Lawnmower Stolen

Police are investigating the reported October 11 theft of a lawnmower from a residence at 180 Berkshire Road.

Burglary

Police are investigating the apparent burglary at a Berkshire Road home Monday. Officers were dispatched to the home for the report of a burglary after unknown person(s) forced entry into the residence between 12:45 pm and 3:45 pm.

A total of $500 in cash and an antique shotgun were stolen. The value of the shotgun is unknown.

Warrant Arrest

Bernard Eskierski, of no known address, was charged with third-degree burglary and fourth-degree larceny Tuesday.

The suspect was arrested on a warrant stemming from an incident that occurred back in February.

The accused was held on a $2,500 and given a court date and given a court date of October 17.

Vandalism

Police are investigating damage done to a John Deer 230 Excavator parked along Butternut Ridge Monday night. Michael Burton Builders own the machine. The apparent vandalism was reported to police Tuesday morning.

Shoplifting

Police are investigating a shoplifting incident at Big Y supermarket on Queen Street Sunday.

According to police, a man reportedly removed a grocery cart of items from the store without paying, then went back in for more. When confronted by management, the suspect fled the scene.

An arrest is expected, police said.
