WILDCATS 0, HORNETS 0: The Hornets offense, led by Taylor Johns created many chances, but strong play by Wildcats goalie Rebecca Reed deflected their attacks. The same thing occurred at the other end of the field where beautiful passes from the midfield by Kelly McPhee and great shots on goal by Lauren Doyon could not penetrate the defense set up by Hornet defender Katie Rose McNulty and goalie Olga Virgalla.

DESTROYERS 2, AMERICAN EAGLES 0: Emily Boncek, Lauren Clark and Stacy Broughton played well for the Destroyers while Casey Day, Megan Rogers and Marissa Bobkowski all had fine games for the Eagles.

THUNDER 3, DANBURY 2 Danbury scored quickly, but was answered with a goal by the Thunder’s Neris Halili. The Thunder, down at halftime by 3-1, rallied back on a score by Blake Barreto. With a minute left, Blake Baretto tied the game on a penalty shot. The Thunder’s defense was led by Kevin Alves and Matt Samuelson, and shut out second half goalkeeping by Matthew Yakush.

LADY LIBERTIES 5, EAGLES 1: Steve Borschetta scored three goals while Jimmy Repasi and Sam Morrison scored one apiece to lead the Liberties to the win. For the Eagles, Jasper Ress scored. Henry Sims played very well at midfield. Greg Aiello and Brett Balmforth anchored the defense.

TEAM (#1) 5, EAGLES 1: Matt Wright (2), Jake Sullivan, Michael Coster and Andrew Rothenberg scored the goals that lifted Team #1 to the win. For the Eagles, the lone goal was scored by Billy Sims. Cody Cullens also played a great offensive game and Henry Sims led the defense.

NIGHTHAWKS 1, LIGHTNING 1: Danielle Norris of the ‘Hawks and Lindsey Lively of the Lightning scored the lone goals in a 1-1 tie. For the ‘Hawks, Nicole Grillo, Ashley Davis and Cara Colacurcio all played well. For the Lightning, Margaret Cozens, Page Woodhiuse and Meredith LaPerch had solid performances.

LIGHTNING 0, TORNADOES 0: Marissa Hansen, Rebecca Jaroszewski, Emily Dutt and Michelle Davis played well for the Lightning while Sally Toms, Rachel Taback, Molly Day and Meagan Wilson paced the Tornadoes.

DOGNABBERS 5, ALL STARS 1: Daniel Lynch scored three goals while Tory Deakin and Stephen Musco added one each to lead the ‘Nabbers to the win. Patrick Fay assisted and also made several diving saves in goal. Zack Dent and Andrew Cuccio dominated midfield play. For the All Stars, Jacob Dauz and Matt Hill held the Nabbers to one goal on 12 shots as Michael Tuccio, Rich Andreotta and BJ Swift all played well.

NIGHTMARE 4, TORPEDOES 0: Christopher Bock scored two goals while Trevor Todd and Eric Thornberg scored one apiece to lead the Nightmare to the win. Stephen Gumbrecht and Kyle Kromberg were solid on defense. For the Torpedoes, John Sapienza, Michael Czarnecki and Jonathan Frey all played well.

DEFENDERS 2, DOLPHINS 1: Leah Barrett scored the winning goal to give the Defenders a 2-1 victory. Jillian Jagoe scored one while Alyse Brautigam had some great saves as goalie. Nicole Gindraux, Laura Curcuruto and Haley Henry excelled for the Defenders to help secure the win. Kelly O’Connor scored for the Dolphins while Julia Klucik, Lisa Barber and Molly Sheluck played a good game.

HURRICANES 1, STRIKERS 0: Emily Floros scored the Hurricane’s goal with an assist from Meaghan Carney. Emily Ashbolt and Julianna Sclafani led the Hurricane’s defense. For the Strikers, Katherine Scott and Christina Naldini played well on offense and Danielle Ford played well for the defense.

TIGERSHARKS 4, BOMBERS 0: The Tigersharks blanked the Bombers, led by the powerful first strike goal off the foot of Christian Gregoire. Alex Newfeld and Kyle McCarthy each added goals with assists from Ryan Pasko and Colby Summerland. Luke Shearin completed the scoring with a solo shot in the fourth quarter. Ian Hripak was outstanding as the ‘Sharks goal keeper. For the Bombers, Bryan White and Michael Chevalier applied the pressure with some excellent offensive play. Kevin LeBlanc kept the Bombers close with strong Defense.

VELOCIRAPTORS 3, DRAGONS 1: The Velociraptors played with excellent passing, stifilling defense and good goal tending by Derek Krewson, who also scored a goal. Conrad Normann made an impressive pass to Max Eckert to score a goal. For the Dragons, Jason Marks played well on both offense and defense. Oliver Powers played goalie. Phillip Lyons played well on defense.

ROADRUNNERS 1, WOLFPACK 0: Chris Haylon scored a goal with a minute left in the fourth quarter to break a scoreless tie and win one for the Roadrunners. Zach Baudisch, Colin Cooper and the rest of the Wolfpack kept the offensive pressure on throughout the game, but were unable to get past a tenacious Roadrunner defense led by Luke Piazza, Vincent Brophy and Doug Brede. The Wolfpack’s Josh Barrett and Paolo Moscovici also played tremendous defense.

ROCKETS 2, SONICS 0: Sean Burson and Ryan Cassidy scored the goals that led the Rockets to the win. Burson and Thomnas DiLuoffo had the assists. For the Sonics, William Little and Michael Shannon led the offense as James Rebman, Andy Hsu and Daniel Gallagher powered the defense.

WILDCATS AC 3, NIGHTHAWKS 3: The Nighthawks scored in the final minutes preserve the draw. John Imbimbo tallied a hat trick through assists from Johnny Kerins and Cole Baldino. David Tortora anchored the defense for the Nighthawks and fought off many opportunities late in the game. The Wildcats scoring was shared between Michael Greenwood who scored twice and Nicholas Badiola who got his name on the scoring sheet for the first time. Matthew Vavrek had one of the assists. Mac Morlock was solid in goal, holding the ‘Hawks scoreless during the quarter he was between the posts.

CHEETAHS 2, EAGLES 0: Andre Capozziello and Todd Wolter scored the goals that lifted the Cheetahs to the win. Austin Jones played well. For the Eagles, Lewis Thompson and Jeremy Schemiel were solid on offense as Christopher Tenney paced the D.

GIRLS U10

RAMPAGE 2, SOUTHBURY 1: Chelsea Fay scored with one minute to play to lead Newtown past Southbury. Kristen Tanner also scored on an assist from Allison Modzelewski. Berenice Bryant, Ellen Ritzinger, Kate Bowen and Jordyn Good had fine games. Katie Pessin was solid in goal, making 11 saves.

BOYS U10

NEW FAIRFIELD 2, RAPTORS 0: The Raptors saw strong defense play by Eugene Kallivrousis, Benjamin Miles and Kyle Droniak. On the offensive side Chris McCann, Andy Lapple and Adam Buccino played hard for the Raptors.

BOYS U11

FAIRFIELD 2, NEWTOWN 1 (State Cup): Fairfield defeated Newtown in a shoot out this weekend. Both teams played to a 1-1 tie in regulation, and went scoreless in the two overtime periods. Fairfield managed a one goal win in the shootout. It was a very exciting, well played game. Newtown’s only score came off a rebound shot by Connor McManus. Andrew Mesiel, Andrew Domingos and Kurt Acetic had very strong games for the Nightmare. Ryan Goodridge and Chris Parker were all over the field for Newtown. Michael Kearns and Daniel Quinn were solid on defense, while Jason Kstecki played brilliantly in goal.

GIRLS U11

HURRICANES 1, WEST HARTFORD 0 (State Cup): The Hurricanes advanced to the final eight of the State Cup by defeating West Hartford on Saturday afternoon. Newtown battled the hosts from start to finish with the Hurricanes’s big break coming on a penalty kick. Nora Lynn Shimko planted the ball solidly into the back of the net past the outstretched hands of the keeper for the winning score. Turning in a remarkable game on defense were Emily Weber, Colleen Thornberg, Molly Curry, Jen Brewer and Cassie David, they rose to the occasion and worked overtime breaking up the relentless attack of West Hartford.

HURRICANES 4, SOUTHBURY 0: Southbury expected light rain for the game but got a heavy downpour from the Hurricanes instead. Haley Keane banged home the first goal on a cross from Kelley Sullivan to complete the scoring for the first half. Colleen Thornberg got the second half going with a shot that caught the crossbar where Kelley Sullivan picked up the rebound and sent it passed the bewildered keeper. Tania Domingos followed with a solid shot that found the far corner for goal number three. Nora Lynn Shimko kept up the pressure with a well placed shot for the forth goal.  A persistant Genna Scheuerell found the back of the net next with Jennifer Brewer landing the final goal and putting a lid on the win.

BOYS U12

VIPERS 4, EASTON 0 (State Cup): Anthony Florez, Alex Bowen and Kevin Troy scored quick-strike goals to lead the Vipers past Easton and into the State Cup quarter-finals. Mat DeBrantes and Chris Schreiber controlled the defensive wings while Kevin Davies and Chris Meier shared time at stopper. Danny Smith recorded the shutout in net. The Vipers will host Avon on Saturday at St. Rose.

GIRLS U12

NAVIGATORS 4, NEW MILFORD 2: Strong midfield play by Kate Kirrane, Eva Cerreta and Alan Bilangi controlled the ball and Jackie “Jazz” Schulz did the rest. With the ‘Gators trailing late in the first half, Jazz scored three unanswered goals in a 10-minute span. Harriet Morgan scored the other goal. Katie Powers made several first-half saves and Ashley Braun preserved the win with a solid second half in goal. Jackie Petrasanta and Christie Attanasio played fine defense.

BOYS U14

STORM 3, WEST HARTFORD 2 (State Cup): The Storm fell behind early, 1-0, but scored three times in the first half to grab the lead. Max Barrett scored a pair of goals and Nick Sando added another. Chris Nuelle, Alex Naldini and Scott Kohn all provided assists. West Hartford scored late in the first half to trim the Newtown lead. In the second half, two late scoring opportunites by West Hartford were turned away by strong defensive plays from Tyler Bigham. The Storm advance to a quarter-final matchup with Fairfield United on Saturday at 4 pm at Treadwell Park.

STORM 5, DANBURY 0: Alex Naldini scored two goals while Tad Pierson, Max Barrett and Jon Hartlett scored one goal apiece to lead the Storm. Pierson, Hartlett, Nick Sando and Scott Kohn (2) all had assists. Goalie Steven Marks earned the shutout.

GIRLS U14

NITROS 6, WOLCOTT 1: Wolcott scored an early goal early on. After that, Erica Vacaro led a brilliant offensive effort with a hat trick plus one – four goals. The offense was deadly accurate with their goal shots, aided by excellent passing and assists from Rosie Jackman and Jen Greenwood. Lindsay Weber and Sara Peters added one goal each to round out the scoring. The defense and midfielders spent much of the game on Wolcott’s turf keeping the offense actively fed.

SAMBA TTP

U14

SAMBA 1, BEACHSIDE 0: Samba tested their lower Fairfield County rival in an exciting game. Samba started quickly, pressing Beachside with a persistent offfensive attack. The attack paid off when Michael Klein coverted a feed from Nick Gantsoudes to beat the Beachside goalie for a 1-0 lead. Brian Conroy, Ryn Ogiela and Chris Collins kept pressure on during the remainder of the half, not allowing Beachside to sustain an attack. The second half was a defensive struggle, with much of the half played in the midfield. When Beachside penetrated, Mike Vontobel, Ryan Derrig, Mike Kennedy and Chris Howley kept their offense from scoring. Sean Cummins was strong in goal, recording seven saves for his fourth shutout of the season. Samba is now 4-0-2 in league play.
