To The Editor:

I am pleased to endorse Jeff Capeci for First Selectman and Charlie Gardner for the Board of Selectmen.

Rising taxes and increased municipal spending threaten Newtown’s affordability and future. Jeff and Charlie bring the steady, pragmatic leadership we need to tackle these challenges. With deep community roots and a commitment to preserving what makes Newtown special, they offer the experience, vision, and integrity to keep our town affordable while planning responsibly for its future.

Jeff Capeci’s record speaks for itself. With over twenty years of service — including ten on the Legislative Council (six as chair), six on the Board of Selectmen, and leadership roles on two Charter Revision Commissions — Jeff has proven himself a capable, collaborative leader. He has consistently focused on fiscal responsibility and transparency and is committed to ensuring that Newtown remains an affordable, safe, and vibrant place to live. His “Java with Jeff” meetings at the Senior Center are but one example of his accessibility and genuine desire to listen to residents.

Not to be overlooked, Charlie Gardner brings energy, expertise, and a strong sense of civic duty to his candidacy. In his nine years in Newtown, he served as Vice Chair of the Legislative Council, on the Board of Assessment Appeals, and on the Zoning Board of Appeals. Professionally, his background as an attorney and policy researcher gives him the analytical skills needed to address Newtown’s complex challenges.

I encourage my fellow voters to support Jeff Capeci and Charlie Gardner this election. They are exactly the kind of leaders Newtown needs — steady, informed, and dedicated to keeping our community affordable and strong.
