To The Editor:

My late husband, my children and I were longtime residents of Newtown.

My two sons, Kyle and Ryan, still live in Newtown. My son Chris Lyddy served four years as Newtown’s State Representative. He was the first Democrat to serve since Watergate. Jim Gaston was one of his mentors.

Jim has served a lifetime of public service to Newtown. I once asked, why? He said, John F. Kennedy once stated “ask not what your Country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country.”

And since then, he’s served four years as selectman, 16 years as Chair & Vice Chair of the Board of Finance, 12 years as Warden of the Borough, and on the Borough Board of Burgesses for 20 years.

I think that about says it all.
