To The Editor:

I grew up in Newtown, got married here, and then my husband was drafted into the military, where we served our country for over 40 years. After military service, I returned home — to the town I always loved and missed.

One of my first stops was the Municipal Center, where I met Renee Weimann in the Town Clerk’s office. I had several questions about town departments and community resources, and Renee greeted me with a warm smile and a genuine “welcome home.”

Since then, I’ve visited her office many times — for certified copies of my marriage license, filing my military DD-214, researching land records, and applying for absentee ballots. Each time, Renee was there — professional, knowledgeable, cheerful, and always remembering my name. She patiently answered every question and guided me to the right departments when needed.

Over time, I came to realize that while Renee was always present and running the office seamlessly, I had never once met the current Town Clerk, Debbie Halstead. Frankly, I assumed Renee was the Town Clerk. After learning she has served as the Assistant Town Clerk for more than 18 years and is a certified clerk, I understand why the office runs so efficiently — it’s thanks to Renee’s dedication and experience.

It’s clear to me that this office needs change. Renee Weimann has proven herself through years of service, professionalism, and care for her community. Let’s recognize the person who truly keeps things running. I encourage my fellow Newtowners to honor our “Nicer in Newtown” spirit and join me in voting for Renee Weimann for Town Clerk in the upcoming municipal election on November 4th.
