To The Editor:

In every community, progress depends on people willing to serve — not for recognition or politics, but because they believe in contributing to something bigger than themselves. That’s why I’m proud to support Neil Chaudhary in his run for Newtown’s Police Commission.

I first got to know Neil through Dan Rosenthal, Newtown’s former First Selectman. Having served alongside Dan in my own role as Stonington’s First Selectman. I learned that Neil and Dan share some qualities — integrity, professionalism, and a deep commitment to community.

Neil is running again this year — his second campaign on the Forward line — and that speaks volumes about his character. It would have been far easier to align with a major party, but Neil chose a different path. He’s running in a way that allows him to remain true to his principles. He is stepping forward because he believes in public service and understands that his experience can help Newtown thrive.

Neil is also uniquely qualified to serve on the Police Commission, which, like in my own town, functions as Newtown’s local traffic authority. As CEO of Preusser Research Group, a Connecticut-based firm that partners with government and nonprofits to improve traffic safety, Neil has dedicated his career to research and collaboration. He serves on the Connecticut Safe Teen Driver Committee, the CT DOT’s DUI Task Force, and the Occupant Protection Task Force, bringing expertise directly relevant to the Commission’s work.

What stands out most is Neil’s tenacity and humility. For him, running for office isn’t about ego — it’s about giving back to the community he loves.

At Forward Connecticut, we support leaders like Neil because they put people over parties. Great movements start with small steps — and candidates like Neil are showing us the way forward.
