To The Editor:

I am endorsing the re-election of Jeff Capeci for first selectman and Charlie Gardner for board of selectmen.

I served on the Legislative council with Jeff and Charlie when they were chairman and vice chairman. Both Jeff and Charlie always supported what was in Newtown’s taxpayers best interest. They always looked for ways to improve Newtown by budgeting costly items such as road paving, equipment purchases, or lease instead of bonding. Jeff, as first selectman, has worked tirelessly to keep Newtown affordable for seniors and young people to live and grow here. Many of Newtown neighbors found that their taxes shot right up for the last two years all due to democratic majority occupying the boards and council. That is why I am asking everyone to vote row “B” and get the fiscal conservative majority back to hold the tax increases down while providing for the needs of Newtown taxpayers. I borrowed this statement from the Newtown Republican Party —

If residents can’t afford to stay in Newtown, nothing else matters.

We’re fighting to keep Newtown a place where young families can plant roots, seniors can stay in the homes they love and students can thrive.
