To The Editor:

I am writing to express my strong support for Barney Molloy’s candidacy for the Board of Finance.

Over the last two years serving on the Board of Finance, Barney has demonstrated exceptional leadership. His work on reducing tax increases while making sure that budget requests are accurate and fully documented has shown results. While budgets are complex and require tradeoffs, he’s been vocal in reflecting taxpayers’ concerns.

Barney time and again has asked detailed questions, does his homework, and has led the Board in holding frequent extra meetings and making information available to the public.

The Board of Finance has been more active and engaging than anytime in the last few years. This push for accountability is part of Barney’s commitment to work as a team and his belief that only by working together can Newtown prosper and meet the challenges our community faces. He acknowledges during meetings, we may not all agree, nor should we. But he’s shown he’ll honestly discuss issues, compromise where able, and looks to achieve consensus, when possible, but is also willing to make the tough decisions and move forward.

Transparency, cooperation, and responsibility — in other words, leadership. Bottom line, we all as residents of Newtown deserve nothing less.

I hope you’ll join in supporting Barney Molloy’s efforts to accomplish these goals and vote to re-elect him to the Board of Finance.
