To The Editor:

My commitment to Newtown’s long-term sustainability, for my young family and for all residents, is the driving force behind my run for Alternate on the Planning and Zoning Commission. As a business owner and a current member of the Conservation Commission, I bring a strategic, non-partisan approach to land use and community planning. This includes tackling pressing quality-of-life issues like ensuring new development addresses affordability, responsible environmental practices, and mitigating traffic and safety concerns, ensuring Newtown remains a welcoming place for people of all ages and stages of life.

Crucially, I am an unaffiliated voter who is running for a spot on the Republican line for P&Z Alternate. My primary allegiance is not to one single party, but to the health and future of our town, which means serving everybody.

This election presents a unique opportunity for voters of all affiliations. For the Planning and Zoning Commission, every voter — Republican, Democrat, and unaffiliated — is allocated three votes for the Alternate candidates. I am respectfully asking democratic voters, after casting your primary votes, to consider using your third vote on me.

Electing an unaffiliated candidate like me for your third vote is a vote for independence and balance on the Commission. I am dedicated to respectfully hearing diverse perspectives and finding skillful solutions that ensure lasting, strategic growth while preserving the unique character of Newtown. I would be honored to receive your crucial third vote.

Will Drew
