Camera Awaits Owner

Police Sergeant Darlene Froehlich reports that police are holding for safekeeping a digital camera that was found near the police station following the Labor Day Parade on Monday, September 4.

Found was a Nikon Coolpix camera with a black case. The owner of the camera should contact the sergeant at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841, to claim it.

Honda Vs Saturn

Police report a two-vehicle accident near 55 Dodgingtown Road about 3:10 pm October 11.

Motorist Deborah Talarino, 51, of Monroe, who was driving a 2004 Saturn Vue westward on Dodgingtown Road, stopped for traffic conditions, police said.

Westbound motorist Ryan Menegay, 20, of Bethel, who was driving a 1995 Honda Accord, then struck the Saturn from behind, police said.

Talarino reported neck pain, according to police. Menegay received an infraction ticket for traveling too fast for conditions.

Paintball Vandalism

Police report a case of paintball vandalism that occurred on the afternoon of October 15.

Police said they were called to the area of Berkshire Road and Paugussett Road  on a report that a vehicle was traveling through the area and its occupants were firing paintballs from it at nearby objects.

Paintballs were fired at traffic signs, mailboxes, and a parked vehicle, according to police.

On locating the vehicle, police stopped it to investigate. Police said that Richard Desrochers, 42, of 52 Charter Ridge Drive had been driving the vehicle and allowing two youths under age 16 who were passengers to shoot paintballs from the vehicle.

Police arrested Desrochers on charges of impairing the morals of a child, third-degree criminal mischief, and conspiracy to commit criminal mischief.  

 Police arrested each of the two unidentified youths on charges of third-degree criminal mischief. The charge involves less than $250 of property damage.

After he posted $200 bail, police released Desrochers for arraignment on November 1 in Danbury Superior Court.

Each of the youths was released to their parents for October 30 appearances in Danbury Juvenile Courts. State law conceals the identity of people under age 16 who are charged with crimes.

Poverty Hollow Deer

About 7:30 am October 13, motorist Cheryl Lockwood, 45, of 44 Glen Road, who was driving a 1999 Toyota 4-Runner westward on Poverty Hollow Road, encountered a deer that had entered the road and then collided with it, police report. The deer then ran off into the woods. Police took no enforcement action.

Drug Charges

Police said that at about 7:30 pm October 15, they stopped a vehicle near 228 South Main Street because its driver had failed to drive to the right.

Mary Willis Smith, 36, of 2 Alpine Drive was a passenger in the vehicle, police said. In investigating the incident, police had their dog search the vehicle, after which it found marijuana and a smoking pipe in Smith’s purse, police said.

Police charged Smith with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and with possession of drug paraphernalia. After posting $50 bail, police released Smith for a November 1 court appearance.

Police issued the unidentified driver of the vehicle a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

Suspension

Police report that on the night of October 14, they stopped motorist Jacqueline Yannes, 46, of Seymour on Mile Hill Road, near Exit 11 of Interstate 84, after learning that her driver’s license was suspended.

Police charged Yannes with driving while under suspension. She was released from custody on a written promise to appear in court on October 31.

MV Charges

On the night of October 13, police observed a vehicle in the parking lot at Newtown Shopping Village on Queen Street, on which they ran a computer-based records check.

After the vehicle’s driver, Stanley Siebert, 64, of 7 Parmalee Hill Road, drove away from the shopping center, police stopped the vehicle on Wendover Road.

Police charged Siebert with driving an unregistered vehicle, misuse of marker plates, and driving without automotive insurance.

Police released Siebert on a written promise to appear in court on October 31.

 

Construction Theft

Sometime between 7 pm October 5, and 7:20 am October 6, someone broke into a building under construction at 75 Bennetts Bridge Road in Sandy Hook  and stole various unspecified items, police said.

The crime comprises second-degree burglary and third-degree larceny. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 426-5841.

DUI Incident

Police said that on the evening of October 14, they received a report that there was an erratic motorist driving on Mt Pleasant Road, so they went to the area to investigate.

Police said they found the reported vehicle at the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps garage, after it had been involved in a one-vehicle accident.

Police said the driver, Gordon Brown, 70, of Apt 33 at 55 Sugar Street, failed field sobriety tests, after which they charged him with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn.

Brown was held on $1,000 bail for an October 16 court appearance, according to police.

DUI Arrest

About 11:10 pm October 10, police received a report of unsafe driving on Berkshire Road, so they went to the area to investigate. Police said they located the described vehicle on Wasserman Way, near Exit 11 of Interstate 84, after which they stopped it to investigate.

After performing field sobriety testing, police charged motorist David Caruso, 60, of Seymour with driving under the influence and with failure to obey traffic signs and markings.

After posting $250 bail, police released Caruso for an October 31 court appearance.

Wasserman Way

At about 2:15 pm October 11, motorist Gabrielle Nastri, 16, of 2 Jo-Mar Drive, who was driving a 1999 Chrysler Sebring westward on Wasserman Way, sensed that there was some object beneath the vehicle’s gas pedal, so she reached down to remove it, police said.

In doing so, she lost control of the auto and struck some guardrailing, police said. Nastri was not injured.

Police said they issued Nastri an infraction ticket on charge of being a distracted driver and also with making a restricted turn.

Church Hill Collision

A two-vehicle accident occurred near 30 Church Hill Road about 4 pm October 13.

Motorist Gina Grudzien, 25, of Woodbury, who was driving a sedan, stopped for traffic conditions, and was struck from behind by motorist Malgorzata Grzybowski, 49, of 8 Old Green Road, who was driving a station wagon, police said.

There were no injuries. Grzybowski received a written warning for traveling an unreasonable distance apart.

Keys Found

On October 16, two keys were found on Queen Street. The keys are linked to a Bass Ale key chain, police said. The chain contains a Volkswagen key and a Schlage-brand house key. The owner should contact police Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841, to claim the keys.

Drug Charge

On the afternoon of October 16, police executed an arrest warrant against Christopher McKay, 33, of 10-B Washington Avenue, charging him with possession of a controlled substance. Police said the charge stems from an incident at that address on May 20. Police released McKay on a written promise to appear in court on November 1.

Kia Vs Dodge

About 8:30 pm October 12, motorist Ryan Bunt, 27, of 55 Sugar Street, who was driving a 2004 Kia Spectra sedan, stopped at a stop sign on Saw Mill Road and then attempted to make a turn onto Mt Pleasant Road, police said.

In attempting to make the turn, the Kia collided with a 2002 Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling on Mt Pleasant Road that was driven by Alan Kellogg, 35, of 5 Flat Swamp Road, police report.

There were no injuries. Police issued Bunt a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Sugar Street

Motorist Shelia Hylan, 66, of Southbury, who was driving a 2005 Dodge van eastward on Sugar Street, near Elm Drive, about 7:20 pm October 15, encountered a deer which had entered the road, police said. The Dodge and the deer collided. Hylan was not injured. Police took no enforcement action.

Chrysler U-Turn

About 7:45 pm October 15, motorist Arthur Nelson, 87, of Park Lane, who was driving a 2005 Chrysler sedan northward on Main Street, made a U-turn near 25 Main Street, police said.

In making the maneuver, the Chrysler went off the southbound road shoulder and struck a traffic sign, police said. There were no injuries.

Nelson then drove to the nearby police station to report the accident. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Multiple Charges

Police said they saw motorist Ana Lourdes Panjon, 30, of Danbury driving a Honda Prelude very closely behind a sport-utility vehicle on South Main Street about 8:45 am October 16. Also, the Honda did not bear a front marker plate, police said.

Police stopped the Honda to investigate and charged Panjon with following too closely, driving without a front marker plate, driving without a license, misuse of marker plates, and driving with a suspended registration.

After posting $500 bail, police released Panjon for an October 26 court appearance.

 

Breach of Peace

Police report that an incident occurred between two youths under age 16 at a Newtown High School football game at the high school on the night of October 6. The two youths got involved in a dispute while watching the game, police said.

On October 14, police arrested one of the youths on a charge of breach of peace. The youth was then released from custody on a promise to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court on October 30.

State law conceals the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.

Nissan Vs Subaru

About 3:30 pm October 12, motorist Ernest Ingram, 63, of 66 Glen Road, who was driving a 2004 Subaru Forester westward on Mile Hill Road, stopped for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by westbound motorist Val Riasi, 50, of 121 Lakeview Terrace, who was driving a 1988 Nissan 300-Z, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Riasi for following too closely.

Warrant

Police arrested Teofilo Neto, 44, of Danbury on a warrant on October 17, listing a charge of failure to have automotive insurance. Police said the charge stems from a July 26 motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and Elm Drive. Neto owned one of the vehicles that was involved in the accident. Neto was released on a written promise to appear in court on November 1.
