Francey To Wrap US Concert Tour With Local Show

RIDGEFIELD — Two-time Juno Award-winning singer-songwriter David Francey will be making his final US appearance of 2006 on Sunday, October 22. The show will begin at 7 pm at Temple Shearith Israel, 46 Peaceable Street in Ridgefield.

Mr Francey is a prolific songwriter whose singing style and wry sense of humor makes him one of the most preeminent folk performers today. His 2005 Red House release, The Waking Hour, is a collection of songs that straddle the Atlantic, embracing traditional and contemporary sounds from both North America and the British Isles. The songs traverse the American landscape, exploring back roads, lost loves, and the dark shadows of religion and politics.

For his debut Red House release, The Waking Hour, Mr Francey assembled veteran Nashville performers Kieran Kane, Kevin Welch and Fats Kaplin to make a recording that was simply produced yet as vibrant as his writing.

His experiences hitchhiking across Canada and driving a truck through the night are what give life to his melodic tunes. During his days as a carpenter he used to sing his songs for his own amusement until his wife encouraged him to share his music with others.

Following his first recording, Torn Screen Door, Mr Francey earned back-to-back Juno Awards for Best Roots and Traditional Solo Album for Far End of Summer (2002) and Skating Rink (2003). The Waking Hour (2005) received a nomination in the same category and finds Mr Francey’s writing at its best. He has been touring Canada and the East Coast. His Ridgefield show will be the opener for the 2006-07 Acoustic Celebration series for Temple Shearith.

Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. For tickets and more information call 203-438-6589.
