WATERBURY â It was standing room only when KC LaPierre, RJF, MEP, PhD, founder of the International Institute of Equine Podiatry in Ocala, Florida, visited Post University on Friday, September 22 to demonstrate and explain the finer points of this hoof care.
KC was at the Post University barn aisle at Riversâ Edge Farm in Bethany to demonstrate his techniques on Token, one of the horses used in the Post riding classes, who has been very happy going âshoelessâ for more than a year.
Many students and local horse owners came to learn more about applied equine podiatry and to see KC put his words into practice. Before moving outside to show us how it is done, KC gave a very interesting talk about the whole process and how it can really help so many horses, He also explained his current research into how the foot dynamics work inside the hoof.
Once again it was a crowded room that evening when KC presented his theories and ideas on âWhole Horse Hoof Care.â His innovative approach to teaching this art has met with rave reviews around the U.S. and in the UK. And many horse care providers have adopted his theories and the HPT method of hoof care. It was fascinating to hear KC explain the benefits of letting the horseâs hoof work the way it was intended and the audience was really interested to hear all the excellent information given.
Podiatry will be one of the new career concentration options for Post University Equine Management students next year. They will have the chance to study in Ocala, Florida with Mr LaPierre and earn their diploma as Applied Equine Podiatrists, which leads to a very successful career.

The trainers are Klaus Balkenhol, Ernst Hoyos, Dr Uwe Schulten-Baumer and George Theodorescu.
Each chapter includes insightful descriptions and sequence photographs of exercises and other teaching techniques. The book concludes with a detailed index that cross-references training problems as a handy guide for the reader-riderâs own program.
The book was selected by Doubleday Press to be a main selection for their equestrian book club.
Mr Collins, and some of his students, competed successfully through the Grand Prix level. He has also taught many riders who have become successful professionals themselves.
