Burning Permits Available

Starting Thursday, November 1, the fire marshal will resume issuing one-day open burning permits.

Permits cost $5 and may be obtained at the fire marshal’s office in Canaan House at Fairfield Hills. Office hours are 8 am to 4:30 pm, Mondays through Fridays.

Only brush, which is three inches in diameter or smaller, may be burned. Leaves, grass, and building materials cannot be burned.

On the day of open burning, the permit holder must contact the town’s fire dispatching office at 270-4200 to report the permit holder’s name and the location of the controlled fire. All fires must be completely out by 5:30 pm on the day of the permit.
