WILDCATS 2, AMERICAN EAGLES 0: Wildcats midfielder Lindsay Beck managed to single-handedly stop many of the American Eagles attacks, and the few that got through had to face the strong Wildcat defense led by Danielle Nicolosi and the flawless performance of goalie Amanda Roy. The American Eagles’ midfielder Michelle Kukla set up some great offensive plays, while Casey Day and Jessica Halloran anchored the D.

BOYS C/D

EAGLES 3, TEAM (#6) 3: Ryan Golankiewicz (2) and Jasper Ress scored the goals that lifted the Eagles to the win. David Manville did a great job in goal. For Team #6, goals were scored by Michael Hahn, Jason Hanna and Eric Dinnan.

EAGLES 3, THUNDER 1: Jasper Ress scored a pair of goals and Ryan Golankiewicz added another to lead the Eagles to the win. Evan Gregoire was solid on offense as Evan Arnold led the defense. For the Thunder, Neris Halili scored while Bobby Black and Stewart Tabler powered the D.

BOYS E

STINGERS 7, TERMINATORS 0: Six different players scored goals for the Stingers – Alex Markham, Josh Baron, Steve Forgione, Dana Ress, Steve Jaroszewski, and Morgan Leuzzi. Casey Tenney played well in goal and assisted during offensive plays. The Terminators had outstanding play from Nahba Brohleh in goal, Adam Shankman on offense, and Bryan Wicki played a strong defensive game.

NIGHTMARE 2, WILDCATS 1: Eric Thornberg and Tony Vacaro scored the goals that lifted the Nightmare to the win. Matt Baier, Patrick Shirley and Nathan Barrett led the defense. For the Wildcats, Mike Cognello scored the only goal. Peter Walsh, John Paul Bennedetto and goaltender Dan O’Connor were sharp on defense.

GIRLS E

NIGHTHAWKS 0, HURRICANES 0: Nicole Grillo, Ashley Davis, Abby Grillo and Allie Wessel led the Nighthawks while Samantha Whitely, Chelsey Young, Natalie Villa and Katie O’Dell sparked the Hurricanes.

GATORS 3, TORNADOS 3: Mary Bloshuk scored a pair of goals and Gina Pisacreta added one to lead the Gators. Olivia Dillon and Molly Leger played well. For the Tornadoes, Alanna Gilbert, Maura Gissen and Sally Toms all scored while Molly Day played well in goal.

GIRLS F

SPEED DEMONS 0, HURRICANES 0: Both defenses were challenged as the Speed Demons and the Hurricanes had scoring chances in an exciting game. Lexi Black, Jennifer Hammer, Michelle Isabella and Sara Murtha played well for the Speed Demons. For the Hurricanes, Mara Scallon and Alexandra Grant led the offense, while Mickey McGuire and Matilda Dean led the defense.

DOLPHINS 2, EAGLES 0: Audra Sarna led off with a goal and Julia Klucik scored later, to power the Dolphins to a 2-0 victory over the Eagles. Jessica Cash and Jillian Thompson both played well for the Dolphin’s defense. The Eagles’ Mallory Reilly and Alexandra Fuentes, along with Sarah Attanasio and Stefanie Clevette turned in good performances.

LIGHTNING 4, EAGLES 0: Sarah Burnick scored three goals to lead the Lightning.  Jamie Keating added another.  Morgan Hopper and Mallory Reilly had good games for  the Eagles.

DEFENDERS 5, LIGHTNING 2: Nicole Gindraux scored two goals, leading the Defenders to the win. Lila Kohrman-Glaser, Casey Rutter and Laura Curcuruto each scored one goal. Celeste Cheung , Katie Shirley and Kelsey Karp played solid defense while Emma Iannini made some outstanding saves. The Lightning’s Sarah Burnick scored both goals which were assisted by Jamie Keating. Leah Febbraio and Samantha Wray played good games.

LIGHTNING 1, BOMBERS 0: Lindsey Lively scored the lone goal of the game to lead the Lightning to the win. Hannah Deflumeri turned in an outstanding performance in the net to preserve the shutout. Margaret Cozens, Samantha Dinnen and Morgan Schick played well. For the Bombers, Laura Bittman and Becky Lipnick shined on offense as Ashley Leifels and Stephanie Sanchez were solid on defense.

ALL STARS 1, TORNADOES 0: Ali Korchman scored the lone goal with less than a minute remaining. Kristen Grabowski, Jennifer Vaveen, Sarah Cozens played well for the All-Stars. Katie Burns, Emma Whitley-Rodriguez and Kelly Anne Brophy had solid games for the Tornados.

BOYS F

ROADRUNNERS 2, BOMBERS 0: Luke Piazza and Clayton Makuch each scored their first goal of the season as the Roadrunners bested the Bombers. The Bombers’ stellar goalkeeping and defense, led by Jimmy Mooney, Tommy Stewart, Travis Szalay and Brian LeBlanc kept the game close, but Makuch’s fourth-quarter goal sealed the victory. The Roadrunners’ Matthew Hodge and Pieter Martino put on a display of excellent passing and Zach Carfi played his best game of the year.

WOLFPACK 2, TIGERSHARKS 2: Colin Cooper scored both goals to lead the ‘Pack. Kevin Dennis and Keegan Lombard led the defense. For the ‘Sharks, Colby Summerlin and Matt Dayton scored the goals. Alex Neufeld had an assist. Ryan Pasko played great defense.

ROCKETS 2, WOLVERINES 0: Sean Burson and Thomas DiLuoffo scored the goals that lifted the Rockets over the Wolverines. Will Fletcher and Jack McManus controlled the play on defense. For the Wolverines, Aaron Nezvesky and Gregory Campbell powered the offense as Josh Engler was solid in the midfield.

ROCKETS 4, HAWKS 0: Drew Robinson scored three goals and Sean Burson added one to lead the Rockets to the win. Collin Gage and Burson provided assists. Jack McManus and Brandon Body played well in the fieldfield. For the Hawks, Timmy Ronan had a solid offensive game as Ryan O’Keefe and Jack Curry played well.

WILDCATS A.C. 2, EAGLES 2: The Wildcats got goals from Mac Morlock and Yanni Koutmous. Cavan McCaffrey had a great game through the midfield and Walker Mansfield held the Eagles scoreless for his quarter in the nets. The Eagles were led by Louis Thompson and Conner Quinn who scored one goal each. While the defense was anchored by Christopher Tenney and Jeremy Schaniel.

BOYS U10

RAPTORS 4, DANBURY 0: The Raptors played a very strong and organized game against Danbury. Andy Lapple and Kyle Droniak scored the first two goals, each providing an assist to the other. Droniak scored the third without an assist. The final goal was scored by Dan Clement off his own rebound. Gene Kallivrousis provided strong defense protecting Newtown’s end of the field.

GIRLS U10

RAMPAGE 7, DANBURY 0: Chelsea Fay scored two goals while Ellen Ritzinger, Kate Bowen, Kristen Tanner, Berenice Bryant and Laetitia de Brantes all scored one goal to lead the rout. Melissa Schreiver, Hannah Basch-Gould, Allison Modzelewski, Fay and Bryant all registered assists while goalies Katie Pessin and Modzelewski combined for the shutout. Taylor Smith was strong on defense.

GIRLS U11

HURRICANES 1, NEW CANAAN 0 (State Cup): The Hurricanes advanced to the State Cup semi-finals by defeating New Canaan 1-0. Nora Lynn Shimko scored the winning goal to cap off a solid performance by the entire team. Katie Serock, Sarah Shannon, Kelley Sullivan, Tania Domingos and Megan Hansen kept the offense going with solid team play. While Adelle Ceretta, Jen Brewer and Molly Curry combined with Hurricanes keeper Cassie David to keep New Canaan off the score board. Cassie David made a number of good saves.

HURRICANES 6, TORRINGTON 0: Kasey Schulz and Nora Lynn Shimko scored two goals apiece to lead the Hurricanes to the win. Colleen Thornberg and Sarah Shannon also scored. Genna Scheuerell and Megan Hansen provided the assists. Haley Keane and Emily Weber had solid games to compliment the Newtown attack.

BOYS U11

NEWTOWN 4, SOUTHBURY 4: Connor McManus scored two goals with assists from Connor Collier and Andrew Meisel in a 4-4 deadlock with Southbury. Kurt Nacewicz and Andrew Domingos also scored. John Gouveia and  Meisel were strong on offense.

BOYS U12

VIPERS 1, AVON 0 (State Cup): The Vipers faced their toughest State Cup Tournament opponent yet and with the 1-0 quarterfinal win, advanced to the semi-finals. Goaltender Danny Smith played a solid first half as Alex Bowen provided a tireless effort as he applied pressure in the Avon defensive half of the field. The Vipers found the woodwork four times in the half, but could not find the nylon. Mat DeBrantes and Kevin Davies anchored the defense with Chris Schreiber and Chris Meier helping to shutout Avon. Anthony Florez netted the only ball for Newtown from a Bowen cross that Florez headed in. The Vipers move on to face Wallingford.    

VIPERS 3, SOUTHBURY 3: Anthony Florez, Alex Bowen and Paul Andras scored as the Vipers secured a tie with Southbury and held on to first play in the Northwest division. Andras’ goal came off a pass from Kevin Troy with just a minute left. Sean Weir, Justin Miller, Drew Taylor and Jason Smith all had solid games.

GIRLS U14

BROOKFIELD 3, NITROS 0: Brookfield scored two goals in the first half and added one more in the second. Newtown put the pressure on in the second half with some good assists and passing, but a tough defense and keeper choked off any goals. Christine Salbu played a strong defensive game, Emma MacHugh made several good saves, and Rose Jackman and Sara Gutbrod hustled and played well.

GIRLS U14

ROCKETS 2, WILTON 0 (State Cup): First with defense (where Elyssa Samsel and Emily Fields showed particular skill) then midfield (Kristina Haliskoe, who would later be injured, and Mary Grace Ober were stalwarts here), and finally on the front line, Newtown took charge of the game and defeated Wilton to reach the State Cup semi-finals. Wilton forwards Emily Cushman and Kristen Ryder could only sporadically penetrate to Newtown’s half of Treadwell’s turf, where the Rocket’s keepers – Maria Cinquegrana in the first half and Vicky Thomas in the second – were more than ready. Megan Rawson scored the first goal off a corner kick and then Casey Frobey and Tara Gaston started another corner kick chain reaction that ended when Alex Konneker scored the second goal.

ROCKETS 4, FARMINGTON 2: Casey Frobey scored two goals in the first half as Jillian Tanner, Mary Ober, Caitlin Hansen and Kristina Haliskoe, played well in midfield. Elyssa Samsel, Emily Fields, Megan Rawson, and Erin Clark were solid  in defense, yet Farmington still managed to slip a couple of goals. The score was  tied, until Frobey fed Tara Gaston a solid pass, allowing her to tap the ball into the net and put the Rockets ahead. After constant hustle by Sarah Salbu, Elaine McCafferty, Diana Rawson, and Lindsey Weber, Frobey garnered her hat trick goal off a strong cross from the right forward, Alex Konneker. Maria Cinquegrana and Tori Thomas played well in goal.

ROCKETS 3, WETHERSFIELD 1 (State Cup): It wasn’t until Wethersfield scored off a penalty kick that the Rockets actually get pumped up to play their game. Within the next 45 seconds, Casey Frobey put a beautiful shot into the net off an assist by Tara Gaston and less than a minute later, Gaston found the back of the net off a cross from Kristina Haliskoe. Later, Gaston hooked up with Sarah Salbu, who put the ball into the upper corner of the net. There were solid performances from Elyssa Samsel, Emily Fields, Erin Clark, and Alex Konneker. Maria Cinquegrana had a very solid game in goal.

ROCKETS 1, GUILFORD 0: Emily Fields and Caitlin Hansen played well on defense early, as did Elyssa Samsel, Diana Rawson and goaltender Vicky Thomas, to keep Guilford off the board. Kristina Haliskoe, Casey Frobey, and Alex Konneker kept the pressure on the Guilford net – but the first half ended in a tie. After six successive Newtown corner kicks were turned away, Sarah Salbu arced a high shot over the outstretched arms of a Guilford goalie to yield the game’s only score in the last two minutes of play.

BOYS U14

FAIRFIELD UNITED 7, STORM 1 (State Cup): The Storm’s run in the State Cup ended with a drubbing at the hands of Fairfield United. Chris Nuelle scored an early goal and goaltender Steve Marks played well and Fairfield United led just 2-1 late in the first half. But superior size and speed soon won out.

STORM 1, BROOKFIELD 1: The two top teams in the league met and Brookfield had revenge on its mind. But the defensive play of Bill McCann, Will Brooks and Matt Boland prevented Brookfield from exacting any revenge. Scott Kohn, Matt Norris and Nick Sando played well in the midfield. Jon Hartlett, off a pass from Alex Naldini, scored the lone Storm goal. The Storm are unbeaten in the league.

BOYS U13

SOUTH CENTRAL 2, SAMBA 1: South Central controlled the early play, but Samba recovered quickly and began controlling the mid-field. Jack Quinn scored off a pass from Brian Conner. Constant pressure was applied by Ronny Basak-Smith, Joe Rahtelli, Brian Conner and Michael Klein as Samba outshot South Central, 24-7. Mike Vontobel led the defense with strong performances by Chris Howley, Aron Fay and Ryan Derrig.

SAMBA 3, NORWICH 0: Nick Gantsoudes led the offense with a goal and an assist. Jack Quinn scored for the second consecutive game and Brian Conner scored as well. Joe Rahtelli and Chris Finstein garnered assists. Brian Conroy was effective in the mid-field. Ryan Ogiela along with Chris Collins, Justin Durrelli and Mike Kennedy spearheaded the defense. Sean Cummins recorded his fifth shutout in seven league games. Samba now stands at 5-0-2 in CJSA league play.
