Who is in your family? My wife Kaila, my son James, and my son Daniel, and my 8-year-old Goldendoodle, Bear.
How did you meet your wife? We were high school sweethearts.
How long have you lived in Newtown? My whole life, 34 years.
Where do you work? I work for the Town of Ridgefield as a career firefighter/EMT. I also just recently completed the State of Connecticut Fire Marshal classes, which ran February into June, and at the beginning of July I started as a part-time fire marshal for the Town of Newtown.
What organizations, clubs and/or communities of faith are you part of? As of last month, I’ve been a member of Hook & Ladder for 18 years. We attend St Rose Church.
What do you like to do in your free time? I like to spend time with my family. I really enjoy going to my kids’ events. My own personal hobby is, I am an avid grouse hunter.
Who or what has been the greatest influence on your life? My dad probably had the largest impact on my life growing up. He really taught me just about everything I know as far as common sense street smarts, and he gave me quite the mechanical advantage. Volunteering for Hook & Ladder has really opened my eyes, too, and given me a whole other sense of appreciation for the fire service. It’s been fundamental.
Favorite musical genre? I listen to country music.
Who is your favorite musical artist album? I listen to all types of country.
What is the greatest piece of advice you have ever been given? There’s two that really stick out to me. My dad always said, “If you’re going to do something, do it right the first time.”
The other thing that has stayed with me, especially when I was a new parent, was “Don’t blink.” That’s definitely something I’ve passed on to others too. The one thing you don’t want to do is blink, because I can’t believe my kids are already the age they are.
Favorite food? Prime rib, and pizza.
What is your favorite color? One of my favorite colors is forest green.
What is something you cannot live without? My family, obviously. And coffee with cream in the morning.
What is your favorite travel destination? We love to travel, all over the place with our camper. One of my favorites is Maine, the entire state; and Bermuda.
What is your favorite thing about Newtown? That’s an easy one: The small hometown feel. I like that old New England aspect of it. I know we’re a growing municipality, and a lot of development is going on, but I truly believe it still has that small town charm and feel to it. It’s still here.
Do you have a personal credo? Nothing good happens after 10 pm.
