Best-Selling Author Speaks On The Therapeutic Potential Of Music

DANBURY — The Institute for Holistic Health Studies (IHHS) at Western Connecticut State University hosts best-selling author, John Diamond, MD, on Monday, November 5, from 7 to 8:30 pm. Dr Diamond will speak on the therapeutic potential of music in a presentation called, “Life Energy and Music.” 

The program will take place at Ives Concert Hall on the Midtown campus, 181 White Street. A book signing is scheduled to follow the program. General admission is $20; seniors will be admitted for $10 and students, $5.  To register call 837-8800.

According to Dr Diamond, “Music has the power to raise life energy, the healing forces within us. This is the basis of its immense therapeutic potential.” Dr Diamond will draw from many of his research findings to show effective ways to optimize the therapeutic power of music. 

Dr Diamond is a best-selling author and the founder of the Institute for Music and Health. Trained in psychiatry and preventative medicine, Dr Diamond regards music as a major component of health and well-being.  He has more than 40 years of clinical research and practice in the field of music and health. 

IHHS at WestConn is a pioneer in this emerging field, offering outstanding programs to Western Connecticut. The goal of IHHS is to provide a venue for students, faculty. and the community-at-large to expand their understanding of, and experiences with, holistic philosophies in order to improve the quality of life and health within the community.

According to IHHS Director, Dr Jeanette Tedesco, “The Institute’s ultimate aim is to develop respectful and cooperative relationships among people and organizations and their environment in order to promote healthy living at home, work and within the community.”

A portion of the proceeds from all IHHS events goes to a student scholarship fund to help educate future healthcare practitioners and educators.  Danbury Hospital, Waterbury Hospital, Webster Bank, and Danbury Orthopedic Associates, PC, are among the sponsors of the IHHS 2001-02 programs. This fall, the IHHS line-up includes programs that focus on holistic approaches that can be used to achieve harmony and balance by incorporating easy and affordable mind-body-spirit modalities in everyday living.
