Newtown Takes To The Ice
Newtown Takes To The Ice
To the Editor:
The great news from Newtown High School this season is that there is a Newtown varsity high school ice hockey team. The varsity squad has been practicing this fall and is a talented and dedicated group of athletes. Ice hockey is finally back in town. There is no better way to support this new team than to cheer the team on and watch a great hockey game at the new Danbury Ice Rink. This winter there will be at least 10 home high school games scheduled for Saturday evenings.
This fall is the beginning of the first season and there is a great need and opportunity for Newtown students, families, and fans to support the ice hockey team.
You are invited to participate in our major fundraising activity. At this time we are offering a great opportunity to bring the family out for an evening of exciting ice hockey, to explore the new rink and facilities and to enjoy a family evening in downtown Danbury. Family season tickets, four seats for each home game, are available for a donation of $100. Season ticket holders and sponsors will be listed in our ice hockey program as team sponsors and honored members of the genesis club. (This is a beginning.)
If you canât make a game, share your season tickets with colleagues, employees, friends, or neighbors. We want as many fans as possible to cheer on the new team in the new ice rinkâs comfortable facility.
Presently the ice hockey program will cost over $25,000 and is being funded by donations from the community. No school funds are available this year. The hockey players have hosted fundraisers such as selling water at the Labor Day Parade; holding car washes and tag sales; however, they need to see a huge amount of season tickets (200) to cover the cost of this program. If you are not able to enjoy season tickets, please consider a donation to support the new ice hockey team.
If you have any questions or would like to know about more ways to sponsor the new team call 203-426-7993 and ask for Chris Hoeffel, fundraising coordinator.
Please make your check to Friends of Newtown High School Ice Hockey and send it to: Friends of Newtown High School Ice Hockey, Attention: Lynn Korotash, Guidance Office, Newtown High School, Sandy Hook, CT 06482.
You will be contacted by a team membership coordinator and receive your season pass, official program, schedule, and directions to the rink before the first game on Saturday, December 6.
We look forward to the season and your support.
Many Thanks.
