Elizabeth Poggenburg

A Full And Loving Life

Elizabeth “Betty” Poggenburg, 100, widow of J. Kenneth Poggenburg, Sr, died October 19. She was born in New York City, October 20, 1908.

She is survived by three children, including Carol Amaral and her husband, Daniel, of Newtown; ten grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mrs Poggenburg was a longtime resident of Redding. She taught elementary school in New York City for 39 years.

She was active in St Patrick’s Church of Redding, and various volunteer services in local communities. Her life was full, with dancing, travel, reading, sewing, and baking, but family was always the center of her attention.

Calling hours are Friday, October 23, at Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Patrick’s Church, Black Rock Turnpike, Redding Ridge, on Saturday, October 24, at 10 am. Burial will follow at Umpawaug Cemetery, Umpawaug Road, Redding.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Patrick’s Building Fund, St Patrick’s Church, 169 Black Rock Turnpike, Redding Ridge CT 06876-0119, or the Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen, PO Box 922, Danbury CT 06810.
