An Open Letter To The DTC: Setting The Record Straight

To The Editor:

It has come to my attention that the Democratic Town Committee has taken issue with a social media post I made the day after Charlie Kirk’s murder that took aim at those celebrating his death.

I make no apology for my words or for my outrage and perhaps less than ladylike language. When people openly celebrate the murder of a husband and father simply because they disagreed with his beliefs, that is not politics, that is moral rot. Calling those extremists evil is not “vitriol” it’s the truth.

It’s telling that the DTC would rather take issue with my tone as “being over the top” than address the fact that individuals they associate with were celebrating a man’s death, writing songs about the potential ways a sitting president could be assassinated and normalizing hate as a political tool. I understand why they would like to redirect attention. It is much easier to criticize me for speaking plainly than to defend the 9.6% combined tax increases their majority led-boards have placed on residents over the past two years; increases that continue to burden families and seniors in our community.

I will always speak out against cruelty, hypocrisy, and policies that hurt our town. It is possible to debate issues fiercely without losing our humanity, but I will never stay silent when people celebrate violence.

Ultimately, voters will have the opportunity to decide whether they stand with those who call out and condemn the celebration of violence, or with those who choose to attack the people who dare to speak up about it.
