I’m With Bruce And Paul
To The Editor:
Does it seem as if our national politicians have forgotten that they were elected to serve us? Nationally, there’s no such thing as compromise right now; there’s only political posturing. We don’t have to have that locally, though; our local elected officials should all be working together to help us and to help Newtown. That’s why I’m voting for Bruce Walczak for First Selectman and Paul Lundquist for the Board of Selectmen.
Bruce and Paul are both centrists. Bruce was a leader of the Independent Party until recently. Paul served on, and led, the Legislative Council for years, and worked closely with all the other elected officials to make sure the interests of every one of Newtown’s residents were being served. Both are committed to listening to all sides of every issue.
They are also both committed to transparency. They would not wait months to inform their fellow Selectman and the rest of the town government that residents experienced serious storm damage, as our current First Selectman did. And they would not wait to inform the rest of us either, as our current First Selectman did. That’s not transparency! That’s not reaching across the aisle! That’s not working for Newtowners! Keeping secrets is no way to run a town, and no way to solve problems for residents.
We need to keep national partisan divisiveness out of Newtown’s government, and elect a First Selectman and Selectman who will represent and serve every single resident, no matter their political affiliation and beliefs. We need a First Selectman and Selectman who are comfortable reaching across the aisle and committed to collaborative government. We need to elect Bruce Walczak and Paul Lundquist on November 4.
