To The Editor:

For too long, the majority of Newtown’s residents have not had their voices fully represented in local government. According to AdvanceCT data, most of our population falls between ages 18 and 55. Data does not lie; it is not political, emotional, or biased. The facts show that the largest share of our community is working families, young professionals, and parents raising children. Yet when we look at who holds the seats at the table, it is clear this majority has been overlooked, and Newtown cannot afford to let that continue.

This group is the backbone of Newtown. We are the ones coaching sports, volunteering in schools, supporting local businesses, and paying the bulk of the taxes that sustain our town. It is only fair that those who carry this responsibility are represented in the decisions that shape our future. As a coalition builder, I believe in bringing families, seniors, businesses, and community leaders together to find common ground and deliver solutions that work for everyone. That begins with transparency, ensuring residents can clearly see how their tax dollars are being spent and where improvements are needed.

Lately, many discussions have focused on narrow priorities tied to select groups, with little mention of updating policies that actually help most residents. That silence speaks volumes. Real progress requires leadership that reflects those who shoulder the work and cost of keeping Newtown thriving.

That is why I am running for the Newtown Board of Finance. I represent the working majority, the families juggling school drop-offs and rising costs, professionals commuting long hours, parents keeping kids engaged, and homeowners wondering if Newtown will remain affordable for their families. My background is not politics; it is results. I have managed billions in Department of War and maritime contracts, where I learned to hold every dollar accountable, eliminate waste, and keep projects on time and on budget. I will bring that same discipline and problem-solving to our local government, making every tax dollar count, ensuring openness, and keeping affordability at the top of the agenda.

This election is about balance and representation. Newtown thrives when its leadership reflects all residents, young families, working professionals, and seniors alike. We must round out our boards to include the majority age groups who carry the day-to-day responsibilities while valuing the voices of our seniors. A well-balanced, well-rounded set of voices will give Newtown the fairness and perspective it deserves.

I humbly ask for your vote to represent the working families of Newtown on the Board of Finance. Together, we can restore balance, protect affordability, and ensure the true majority of our town has a seat at the table.

Amybeth Laroche

Republican Candidate, Board of Finance
