Brian C. White,

Republican, District 3

Personal Info: Age 45. Castle Meadow Road. Certified Public Accountant, Studley, White & Associates PC. Legislative Council incumbent.

What personal qualities do you have that will benefit the Legislative Council? — I have been a member of the Legislative Council for the past four years and have been a member of the finance, education and public safety subcommittees. My four years of experience on the council as well as my professional background has allowed me to make informed decisions on the finances, budgets and issues that have had an impact on the town.

What will be the council’s biggest challenge in the next two years? — There are two issues facing the town that need to be addressed. One is the development of a master plan for Fairfield Hills to ensure that it is managed properly. The other issue is to continue to provide a quality educational system while maintaining a tax rate that is reasonable.

Do you favor economic development of Fairfield Hills or should the campus be used solely for municipal purposes? — A master plan should be developed that  would include a mix of open space, recreational and corporate uses.  We need to maintain as much open space / recreational use as possible. However, we need to attract some commercial development to contribute to lowering the overall tax rate for the town.

The proposed changes to the charter may fail on November 6 because of confusion and concern over the need to implement the changes in just 30 days because of a clerical error. Would you be willing to re-appoint a charter revision commission next year to bring these changes before the public again a year from now so that they may be considered solely on their merits? — I would hope that the work of the Charter Revision Commission would be recognized and approved by the town at this election. The proposed charter is an improvement as compared to the existing charter.  However, if the charter fails, I would want to see the Charter Revision Commission reappointed so that the issues may be presented to the town for a vote in the next year.  The voters need to be informed on the issues of the charter that has been presented to them for this election.
