Warrant

After he learned that police held a warrant for his arrest, William Robertson, 29, of 62 Hanover Road turned himself over to police at the police station on the night of October 19, and was charged with second degree failure to appear in court, according to police.

Robertson was additionally charged with failure to obey a stop sign and with driving while under suspension, police said. The motor vehicle charges stem from a March incident.

After processing, Robertson posted $500 bail and was released for a November 8 appearance at Danbury Superior Court.

Truck Hits Pole

Police report that on the evening of October 18, motorist Dennie Dyess, 42, of 301 South Main Street, who was driving a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck, backed into a utility pole near 18 Tinkerfield Road.

Dyess then left the scene of the collision and went home, police said. The impact of the crash damaged both the pole and the truck.

Police said they found Dyess at his residence and charged him with unsafe backing and with evading responsibility. Police released him on a written promise to appear in court on November 7.

SUV Vs Sedan

About 4:15 pm October 20, motorist Donna Bloomberg, 41, of 22 Naragansett Trail, who was driving a 2003 Honda Accord sedan eastward near 51 Church Hill Road, slowed for traffic conditions, police said.

Eastbound motorist Joyce Emslie, 65, of 64 Elm Drive, who was driving a 2003 Dodge Durango behind the Honda, slid on the wet roadway and struck the Honda from behind, according to police. There were no injuries. Police issued Emslie a written warning for following too closely.

Vehicle Damaged

Police received a report about noon October 18 that a 1996 Honda Civic sedan, which had been legally parked in the parking area at 31 Peck’s Lane, had been struck by another vehicle. The Honda had damage to its front bumper. The parked Honda was unoccupied at the time of the impact. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 426-5841.

Toyota Hits Honda

Motorist Amy Lynn Sowitcky, 25, of West Haven, who was driving a 2000 Honda Civic coupe southward on South Main Street about 3 pm October 16, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by southbound motorist Jimmy King, 30, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1997 Toyota Camry, police report.

Police issued King a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Turf Damage

Sometime between 8 pm October 6, and 8:45 am October 7, someone drove over a lawn at 83 High Rock Road and struck a mailbox, according to police. In the incident, a 40-foot strip of turf was damaged. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at 426-5841.

Sign Struck

Sometime on October 14 or October 15, a vehicle drove onto a lawn at the driveway entrance to Walnut Tree Village II on Walnut Tree Hill Road in Sandy Hook and ran over a stop sign. The incident also caused turf damage. Police ask anyone with information on the matter to contact them at 426-5841.

South Main Collision

Motorist Shari Santella, 31, of Stratford, who was driving a 2003 Toyota sedan southward on South Main Street about 2:45 pm October 17, slowed for a vehicle in front of her which attempting to make a left turn, police report.

Southbound motorist Christopher Tomascak, 17, of The Old Road, who was driving a 1989 Mitsubishi coupe, then struck the Toyota from behind, according to police. There were no injuries. Police issued Tomascak a written warning for following too closely.

I-84 DUI

State police said that motorist Robert Wells, 38, of New Milford, who was driving a 2002 Honda sedan westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 11, about 1:15 pm on October 21, lost control of the auto, spun around and then smashed into guardrailing along the left road shoulder, knocking down 15 guardposts.

State police said there was a 7-year-old child sitting in the back seat of the auto at the time of the accident. The accident destroyed the auto, state police said.

State police arrested Wells on charges of driving under the influence, felony risk of injury to a minor, making an unsafe lane change, traveling too fast for conditions, and driving while under suspension.

Wells is scheduled to appear in court October 30 to answer the charges.

Eclipse Into Barrier

About 3:19 pm October 17, motorist Stephanie Demore, 26, of 9 Whippoorwill Hill Road, who was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse on eastbound Interstate 84’s Exit 10 on-ramp, lost control of the auto and struck some guardrailing, state police said. The ramp is sharply curved. There were no injuries. State police said the driver was traveling too fast for conditions.

Drug Charges

Police report they approached Zachary Byman, 18, of 14 Carol Ann Drive regarding a parking issue at about 7:30 pm October 21 at a Newtown High School soccer game at Treadwell Park on Philo Curtis Road.

After investigating, police charged Byman with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and with possession of drug paraphernalia.

After processing, police released Byman on $100 bail for a November 2 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

MV Case

Police report that at about 3:13 pm October 23, they spotted motorist Anthony Ragaini, 20, of Brookfield traveling northward on South Main Street, after which he made a right turn onto Mile Hill Road without signaling to do so. Police said they stopped Ragaini on Queen Street to investigate.

Police charged Ragaini with failure to signal a turn and also with driving while under suspension.

Police released Ragaini from custody on a written promise to appear in court on November 3.

Youthful Offender

On October 20, police charged a motorist under age 18 with three motor vehicle offenses. Police charged the person with failure to display a front marker plate, driving without automotive insurance, and with driving a vehicle with a suspended registration. Because the person is under age 18 and was taken into police custody, the person’s identity is concealed by state law.

After arrest processing, the person was released on a written promise to appear November 17 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court.

Warrant

Early on the morning of October 25, Jason Mynahan, 22, of Waterbury was detained by Waterbury police after they learned that Newtown police held a warrant for his arrest.

Newtown police went to Waterbury and took custody of Mynahan, charging him with second degree failure to appear in court, failure to obey a traffic control signal, and with driving while under suspension.

The motor vehicle charges stem from an incident in Newtown earlier this year.

Police held Mynahan on $1,000 bail for a court appearance that day.
