30 Years Of Arts & Crafts Continue In Oxford
OXFORD â The 30th Annual Oxford Arts and Crafts Show will be presented Saturday, November 3, at Oxford Center School, on Route 67. Hours are from 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is free and refreshments will be on sale.
Among the crafters whose work will be exhibited is Sandy Bourne from Carmel, N.Y. Her original primitive American folk art includes such pieces as gameboards, signs, miniature houses and silhouettes in grain-painted wood frames.
Mrs Bourne began her love of folk art as a child when she painted, drew and stitched samplers for fun. Entirely self-taught, she renewed these interests when she bought a new house and set out to make it look like an old one. After planking floors and installing beams, she made reproduction antiques to furnish it. Friends admired her work, asked her to make folk art pieces for them, and encouraged her to go into business.
Sixteen years later, Mrs Bourne sells her works at nearly 20 shows each year including the Roseland Cottage show in Woodstock (Conn.) and the Fairfield Arts and Crafts Show.
Recent additions to her creations are silhouettes in grain-painted frames. The silhouettes are mounted on original receipts and letters and dating from the 1800s.
Other crafts being presented at the Oxford show will include jewelry, flags, dolls, and doll clothing, toys and oil paintings. Pottery, dollhouses, herbal creations, dried flowers and baskets will also be featured.
