Cancer Education Series At

Danbury Hospital

DANBURY — The American Cancer Society (ACS) and the Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital announce the first class of their co-sponsored cancer education program, “I Can Cope.”

This series of four two-hour classes for people with cancer, their families, and friends will be held on November 5, 12, 19 and 26, from 7 to 9 pm, in the hospital’s Praxair Cancer Center conference room (first floor Stroock Building, Locust Avenue entrance).

During this time, participants will learn about cancer diagnosis, treatment, side effects, nutrition, exercise, stress management and more. The classes are free, but registration is required by calling 800-889-3340, extension 242, or 203-563-0740.

Guest speakers include professionals in the field of cancer management, while videotapes, print materials, and class discussion provide up-to-date information for patients, family, and friends. On November 5, John Pezzimenti, director of cancer medicine and chief of medical oncology and hematology at Danbury Hospital, will discuss “Learning About Cancer & Treatment Options.”

On November 12, Peggy Gilmore, a registered nurse and coordinator of complementary medicine program, and Kristin Kaley, radiation oncology nurse, will discuss “Keeping Well in Mind & Body.”

On November 19, Joan Mills, oncology social worker, will discuss “Relationships, Communication & Your Emotions.” On November 26, a cancer survivor panel and agency staff will discuss “Discovering Community Resources & Celebrating Life.”
