Personal Info: Age 54, Hundred Acres Road. Certified public accountant.

What personal qualities do you have that you believe will benefit the Legislative Council? — As a resident of Newtown for more than 30 years, and as a member of the Legislative Council for five years, and currently serving as its chairman, I believe I have the experience necessary to address the important issues facing Newtown today. My background in finance, and my experience as a member of the council’s finance subcommittee, will be valuable assets in dealing with the budgetary and financial issues that face the town in the next two years.

What will be the council’s biggest challenge in the next two years? — The council’s biggest challenge in the next two years will be maintaining a stable tax rate in light of the expense of development of Fairfield Hills and the need for continued responsible funding of the education and recreation budgets in our community.

Do you favor economic development at Fairfield Hills, or should the campus be used solely for municipal purposes? — I favor limited economic development of Fairfield Hills and I hope that the master plan that is developed for Fairfield Hills will include some provision for commercial development. However, I believe that the primary use of the campus should be to provide for municipal needs such as town offices and recreational facilities as well as open space.

The proposed changes to the charter may fail on November 6 because of confusion and concern over the need to implement the changes in just 30 days because of a clerical error. Would you be willing to reappoint a charter revision commission next year to bring these changes before the public again a year from now so that they may be considered solely on their merits? — I have been a strong supporter of the current charter revision proposals and I hope that they are approved in their entirety. Unfortunately, charter revision has been a divisive issue with the current council, and I am not looking forward to a continuation of the debate concerning charter revision. However, if the charter proposals are defeated, I would support the appointment of a new charter commission.
