Newman

Miriam “Mary” Newman, 90, of Fairfield, a former resident of Newtown for more than 60 years, died October 27 at the Jewish Home for the Elderly.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Rosalie Newman of Newtown.

Mrs Newman was born in Norma, N.J., daughter of the late Rabbi Samuel Abraham and Rose (Klein) Steinfeld, and was a member of Congregation Adath Israel of Newtown.

Mrs Newman was predeceased by her loving husband, Max Newman, in 1962, and by her brothers and sisters, Sylvia Unger, David Steinfeld, Mildred Sylvetsky, Jerry Steinfeld, and Ruben Steinfeld.

She is also survived by her other son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Dolores Newman of Old Saybrook; her grandchildren, Matthew and Beth Newman, Michael Newman, and Joshua and Darryl Newman; her great-grandson, Zachary Newman; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held October 29 from The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road, Fairfield, with interment following at Congregation Bikur Cholim Cemetery on Reid Street.
