Anniversary Events For Putnam Park

REDDING — On Saturday and Sunday, November 6-7, Friends and Neighbors of Putnam Memorial State Park will offer a two-day celebration in conjunction with the park’s 232nd anniversary.

Approximately 70 soldiers, both British and American reenactors, will be encamped at the park. They will perform drills, pay calls, musket competitions, artillery demonstrations and battle skirmishes. There will also be drills and musters in which young people can participate.

The event hours are 10 am to 4:30 pm on Saturday and 10 am to 3 pm on Sunday. There is no admission fee and events will run rain or shine.

Putnam Memorial State Park is the oldest state park in Connecticut. It is located on the site of the Winter Encampment of General Israel Putnam’s Continental troops from December 1778 to May 1779, and dedicated to the role the soldiers played in the Revolutionary War in helping secure America’s independence.

The park has been designated Connecticut’s first State Archaeological Preserve.

Its main entrance is at the intersection of Routes 107 and 58. For additional information, including a full schedule of the anniversary weekend events, visit PutnamPark.org. Information is also available by calling 203-938-2285.
